Great addition to my toolbox - saves time and very easy to use.
Just finished up replacing my brake pads and this tool made it soo much quicker and easier. Rather than having to use a bulky c-clamp just position this in there and turn - your pads will spread away. Also great for pushing your pistons back in before inserting the new pads - its thin size fits right down and allows you to push them in correctly compared to using a screwdriver or something else. Great addition to my toolbox and will be using this for a lifetime of brake jobs. If you don't have one of these yet then do it - you will not regret having this in your tool arsenal.

shiny, slick. will be ok despite that.
Ok. price is reasonable. I would rather the tips be a bit thinner and grippier, they are sort of thick, rounded, and the chrome seems very thick and slick. A rougher surface would grip the pad surface a little. maybe I'll grind them a little. seems pretty well made, though.

works to a limited extent
It works to spread the pads away from the rotor. BUT, it is limited in how far it will do it by the length of the screw: it is too short to spread the arms far to be real effective. You could replace the screw with a longer one, or just buy a different type of spreader-- one that has plates to spread the pads after they open enough to slide the plates between the pads and rotor. More like this: Disc Brake Pad Installation Spreader Caliper Piston Compressor CP131018E With this tool, you can spread the pads enough to slide the pads out, but if you have the type of caliper that has multiple pistons (Porsche, Brembo, Wilwood, etc), you still have more work to do (to put new pads in, you have to push the pistons back in almost flush to create room for new pads).
