It's Motu Zbox,,,
just got mine today, why have not even used it yet, but I've read a lot of reviews on this for I have a feeling it'll sooner than later make up for it's self, I'd maybe gave it 5 stars but being I have not used it yet, four be about right, as I said got a feeling it'll pay off in the long run, specially I think it'll be a handy little piece of something I once read in a review, for it helps your electric guitars pickups, into foot pedals before going into your amp to stop the muddy sound on many things in the music world,,,,,,,

Works, but cheapish build.
I've used this for almost a year and a half and I like the result; it does indeed result in a more 'natural' sound of a guitar when recording direct but it does have one major drawback: it's highly subject to RF interference, at least in my case.I resolved the issue on my own by using a ferrite ring around the cord at the end that plugs into my recording interface but I feel that with such a simple circuit design, MOTU should've used a higher quality cable or simply provided a jack that we could use our own cables with. It's not even a matter of cost savings, I would've gladly paid $50 for something that might have cost MOTU an extra $1-2 in parts, if even that. That being said, the problem of RF interference is one that many musicians will be familiar with and, despite this small issue, it's definitely worth the price if you are willing to work around the problem.

Meh.
Couldn't really tell the difference. Easy return though.

GOOD FOR YOUR AMP, USELESS IN FRONT OF A DECENT DAC FOR RECORDING TO MAC.
Cleaned up the sound and made it somewhat richer with my PRS and trusty Randall Stereo amp. Reduced buzz noticeably, Don't purchase for recording to Macs, though, My Focusrite Safire 6 USB box is all I need,

A definite improvement in sound quality, although it lowers the volume.
It does change the sound going into the preamp. I monitored both with and without product and it seems to be more clear and cuts out some of that unneeded noise but does lower the volume a tad.

It DOES make the guitar sound more organic in direct ...
It DOES make the guitar sound more organic in direct recording. Very subtle but still noticeable difference.

It does it's job - Watch my video review which goes in depth.
Four stars is about right because this is a subtle yet noticeable piece of gear the gives your tone that added realism you might be looking for. It definitely helps. Now, is you amp sim up for the task as well?I recommend watching my in depth video on YouTube. Search "MOTU ZBox UNBOXING and DEMO". I think you'll find yourself buying the ZBOX. For the price it's a great piece of gear to have in your studio. It's a very sturdy made product. I question the cable connectors a bit because they are sealed, but that can be a good thing and I think it is here.Another nice MOTU product!

I've got my Strat back! Thanks MOTU!
I use a Zoom RFX2200 effects unit and have been using the mic input on the front of the unit. It was apparent from the start that there was a mismatching of impedance with a noticeable amount of treble cut-off that really took away the tone of the guitar. I could get some of it back using the tone controls on the amp, but it never sounded as good as when plugged direct into the amp. Then I found this! As soon as I plugged it in the guitar came back to life! What a difference. It's so good that I'll now have to reset the amp as there might be too much treble! But what a simple idea, and why no-one had come up with before even though the issue was well known, is a mystery but a credit to MOTU! Can't recommend it enough for anyone with the same problem.

Tinny sound - This is the answer
Absolutely BRILLIANT - only sorry it took me so long to find the answer to what I already knew was loss of tone due to mismatched impedances. I have a beautiful Fender Strat and the best of amplification gear through Bose equipment but, regardless of what seemed like decades of messing about with equalization settings and effects, my output could be altered and made a "bit" better but was always a bit thin and tinny. I plugged in the Motu Zbox and set the Bose unit to a low impedance input setting and - WOW - what I knew was the true sound of my Strat was right back. Even my wife noticed right away and could not believe the massive improvement in my sound. My appreciation to Motu for a very simple and cost effective solution. Thanks

Of coruse there are better much more expensive DI boxes
This 1 MegaOhm DI box really does the trick in bringin my US Tele to life through an RME Fireface. Hi Z inputs don't have enough in themsleves and often soun d weedy. I compared a real Line 6 Amp DI'd into the Preamp vs the Z Box and thnere was v littel difference. I just could't get this before. Of coruse there are better much more expensive DI boxes, but for £40 very pleased. Go for it
