Did a 30 foot walkway with four levels (4 sets of stair steps along the way). Has held up nicely. Was worried because the ground is silty loam, but it is holding and the walkway has not settled, (but it has only been four months). These are the lowest priced ones I could find. Going to order a few more as I keep finding uses for them like the mailbox or fixing a fence. We measured the height we wanted with a level and measure tape, cut the 4 x 4 post to that height. Removed the screws on the spike, fit in a 6 inch piece of 4x4 to beat up with a sledge hammer while hammering into the ground to the desired depth. Dug a little hole beside it to remove the piece of hammer-wood. To remove it required digging into the little side holes with a flat head screwdriver, then put in the longer support post, tightened the screws with a wrench, and covered up the tiny side hole. Unfortunately, when doing 3 plus step stairs you use more spikes (one set for the upper and one for the lower). We spaced the supports 6 feet apart using a 2 x 6 support for the walkway. For the two step stair, we supported one of the steps by using a 2 x 8 on top of a 2 x 6 in order to avoid using another spike as seen in the pics. You can't see the post supports in the pics because they are in the ground.

I do a lot of outdoor features in my yard. These work beautifully because I don't have to use a post hole digger. They are sturdy and a much better buy than some that can be purchased online. This is my second buy of these.

I had been looking for something like this for a while, and finally found some at one of the major big box hardware stores, but they were quite pricey! This set comes at a great price, and they are not at all cheaply made! I used them to install a shade sail using 8' posts, and I couldn't be more pleased. Useful product!
