Purina Tidy Cats Breeze Cat Litter Box System Kit with Pellets & Pads

Love this kitty litter box. Tried it originally with the breeze pellets included in the starter kit but switched to pine pellets almost immediately. The design is amazing, well thought out and simple to use. Would prefer better materials but it works in plastic and my cats do not object to plastic. This one has a pee pad in a drawer just below the main box. The cat pees on the pine pellets, the pine pellets absorb the pee, expand and disintegrate, falling through the grating on the bottom of the main cat box. I've had the box for over a month and a half and mostly I move the pellets around some, last night was the first time I had to make a concerted effort to push them through the grate. In this case it was because the pull out drawer below the grate was full and the pee pad needed to be cleaned out. And that was an amazingly simple procedure. Pull the pan out, fold the flaps of the pee pad and toss. I love it. I used to spend hours on my kitty boxes each morning. Both my cats feel it is their god given right to make me as much work as possible, scattering their clay litter across their bathroom, into my living room and office. The made a mess out of everything. Pine litter is wonderful. They do not pick it up in their feet the way they pick up clay litter and each pellet is large and heavy so it is not worth their while to go nuts covering their poo. You also have the fact that the pine pellets have that pine smell and they don't seem concerned, they spread a light layer and move on. Now I will admit it was a tad difficult to get both my cats on board with the new box and pine pellets. BUT, I have a chocolate Persian, 2nd rarest colorway and prissy beyond belief. In the end I wore her down. Put the pine pellets on top of her clay litter and just kept clearing out the clay litter as she used her box replacing it with more and more pine. It took well over a month till she would acknowledge the new box and even longer to get her to use it. But the new box is clean and easy to keep up and I eventually installed it in their main bathroom and her old box is stinky and a bit of a mess and I put that box in the temporary spot where I keep put the new kitten. This week she started using the new box, voluntarily. If this cat can make the switch any cat can. One day a few years ago I cut up fresh chicken and put three bite size morsels in her wet food. She absolutely refused to eat her wet food while the three morsels were in the bowl. She then went on a hunger strike to the point where I had to take her to the vet..... She is prissy beyond belief.

I love my cats, but I may just love this litter box more. I switched from clay litter several years ago, after discovering that the clay dust was irritating both to my newly adopted-cat and to my visiting mom. We tried several different types of litter before settling on the popular brand of pine pellet litter. It's a pretty decent product in terms of odor control and practicality, but OH! The tracking!! Sawdust all over my floors; it was like living in a barn. When company came around, it was mortifying. If they stayed long enough, the inevitable little sawdust footprints would begin to appear all over my dark wood floors. Company: "what's that??" Me: "um, it's...cat litter...I don't know what got into them...they have never done this before...wait, don't leave..." I found the Breeze system during one of my exhaustive searches for the perfect litter; I'm sure my fellow cat-lovers can feel my pain. I liked the idea of the grates at the bottom for the urine to pass through and be absorbed by an odor-controlling pad. Even better was the promise that the pellets wouldn't break down and track all over my house. I thought the price was a little steep, what with having to buy the wee-wee pads on a regular basis, but I was intrigued. And desperate. When I received my brand spanking new catbox, I proceeded to empty and wash out the old box and just pop the new box in its place without much fanfare. In my experience, felines are less likely to reject something new if you just act as if nothing is different. Just put it down and walk away. The instructions recommend leaving the old litter box out and just not maintaining it, so that the cats will prefer to use the clean Breeze box, but my bathroom is way too small. If I put two catboxes in the bathroom, I won't be able to fit myself in there, so no. Instead, I mixed some of the pine pellets in with the Breeze pellets and I put a little bit of the old used litter in the bottom drawer, on top of the wee-wee pad, so it would smell familiar to them. Then I crossed my fingers. As the days passed, I couldn't believe how clean my floors remained. As promised, the pellets remain in one piece, so there's nothing to stick to their paws and track everywhere. Oh sure, I'll find the occasional pellet or two on the floor by the catbox, but that's nothing. It only takes a second to sweep it into the dustpan and toss it back in the box. It's absolutely nothing compared to what I have been through. The pine pellets that I added to the Breeze pellets broke down as usual, but instead of sticking to their paws and ending up on my floors, the sawdust simply fell through the grates at the bottom and onto the wee-wee pad beneath. Genius! Another reviewer here said he uses this box with the pine pellets instead of the Breeze pellets, and I may give that a shot as well, since I have leftover pine stuff anyway. I'm just afraid that too many of the pine pellets will cause the dreaded tracking problem again. The way I have it now is about a 60/40 mix (give or take) of Breeze pellets to pine pellets. I only put half of the bag of Breeze pellets in the box to mix in with the pine. My cats DID have an adjustment period of about a week, complete with both of them giving me the stink eye for several days and one leaving a massive poop at the front door as a sign of her displeasure. I gave her my sternest "Nono, bad kitty" and "the look" of disapproval as I scooped the poop and placed it in the new litterbox for her to see where it belongs. I threw in a few additional stern mommy looks for good measure as I scrubbed and disinfected the scene of the crime. The guilt trip must have worked, because she deposited her next poop in the Breeze box like I told her to. So far so good. I'll be brutally honest here - this stuff does nothing to control poop odor. You pretty much have to scoop out the poops as soon as you can. This may not be an issue if you're lucky enough to have a remote spot for your catbox, like a basement or spare bathroom. In my case, my one and only bathroom is the only place in my apartment for the catbox, so I have to be on poop alert at all times. Let's be honest, though. Poop is poop and it's gonna stink. That's why the air-freshener business is booming. The real odor culprit is urine. Raise your hand if you have ever tried a new brand of cat litter, only to walk into your house a few days later to find it smelling like a truck stop urinal. Few things are worse than that, but the good news is that the Breeze system eliminates urine odors REALLY well. They tell you to change the pad once a week for one cat, but in my house, it holds up for 8 - 10 days with two cats and NO urine odor. My cats love to drink plenty of fresh water, so they do pee quite a bit. I don't know if the pine pellets that are mixed in are helping with the odor control; that's certainly a possibility. I guess I'll find out when I run out of pine pellets to mix in with the Breeze pellets. The best news of all is that for the first time in years, I am living without cat litter tracked all over my house. This is the first time in years that my floors have not needed sweeping/vacuuming on a daily basis, sometimes twice a day. I debated whether to give the Breeze system 4 or 5 stars, because of the poop odor thing, but ultimately it has changed my life for the better, so 5 stars it is. ~ A word about flushability. Some here have said that they just flush the poop with a few of the pellets stuck to it down the toilet. I called the Breeze hotline on the box and was told that they absolutely do not advise flushing the pellets down the toilet. They will also send you coupons if you ask. :) ~

I love these litter boxes. This is my 5th one I have bought for all my cats. They work very well and are so easy to clean. I have 3 cats and have one in my house, one in my garage (for my outdoor cat that sleeps locked in the garage at night) and I keep one clean so when its time to wash one then I can just swap out the dirty one for the clean one while I clean the one they were usiing. I bought this one to stay in our RV when we travel so I don't have to haul one from the house. I had bought the largest one they make a year ago, but because I keep the litter boxes inside a litter box cabinet and the hole in the cabinet is on the short end of the cabinet then the largest litter box won't work inside the cabinet unless you remove the tall sides of it because it is a rectangle shape and even though it fits inside my cabinet, the hole for them to get into the litter box itself is located on the long side of the litter box so the only way they could access it was to remove the side gaurd from it and I have a male cat that requires the side guard to be on the litter box or he ends up getting urine everywhere. We did try it for awhile without the guard but urine just kept getting all over the floor of the cabinet and leaking underneath the cabinet and that just wasn't good so I stopped using that litter box. But I love all the other smaller sizes and wanted to love the largest size and would have if the guard would have had the entrance cutout at the shorter end of the guard instead of the longer side.I like hiding my litter boxes inside of a cabinet so you can't see them since I have them in our living room and it helps contain the smell too. The pads can get expensive though when you have multiple cats using the same box which requires changing the pads out every other day and thats using the multi cat thicker pads. When I just had one cat I used their regular pads and usually only had to change the pads once a week, if I rotated the tray halfway through the week since she seemed to always pee at the same end all the time, but now that I have multiple cats I started having to use the thicker multicat pads because the orginal pads I was having to change out daily and with the multicat pads I can at least change every other day. So yeah they can get expenseive when you have multiple cats. I know there are other brands of pads on the market but I haven't tried any of those just yet. I may try them one day to see if they hold up as well as these do though, just to try and save some money. Overall, I love these litter boxes. They are great. Oh and they recommend to change out the pellets once a month, but I usually can wait and change them out about once every 3 months by just adding some pellets to the box once a month when it gets low from scooping where it sometimes sticks to the poop. So yeah I highly recommend these litter boxes if you want a much easier and cleaner way for a cat litter box.

I have 4 indoor only male cats and this system is a life-changer! It removes the dust everywhere problem of using even "dust free" litter. I do now have some stray pellets because of an over zealous cat flinging them while burying his deposit! But they're so easy to sweep up and put back into the box. The urine pads are fantastic and swell up due to a gel in them that absorbs lots of liquid. The boxes are beautiful; although my boys are too big to use them with the white tops on...talking about just the regular size unit. By removing the tops the cats fit better into the boxes and go where they're supposed to "go". With the solids remaining on top of the pellets it's simple to remove them. I am SO happy I saw this in someone's house and asked them about how they liked it before I got it. Btw, they also RAVED about how fabulous the system is. Honestly, imho this system is really a life-changer and worth every penny, not that it's expensive because it's not. Also the smell is gone too. They must have a deodorizer in the pads because I smell nothing anymore. SO much easier to change the pellets and the pads than scooping heavy, hard, smelly used cat litter. Less trash too. So far the pellets are the original ones and it's been well over 4 weeks; although not all 4 cats have adapted to the changeover yet. Try it! Buy it because it's about time someone invented a new system that actually works. And is affordable too! I bought 4 boxes and may have to get 2 more after I live with it awhile and see how the boys "share" them.

I personally loved the Purina Breeze litter system, it worked far better for me than a traditional litter box. I've always hated clay litter tracking, and haven't been good about scooping consistently. Breeze fixed both those issues for me- the pellets track far less and aren't awful to step on, and I've only needed to scoop once every day or two, then replace the pad once a week. The box itself is easy to disassemble and clean, although I think a month (as recommended) may be too long between cleanings. After removing the pellets, the box itself smelled pretty rancid. I would say go 2-3 weeks between full cleanings, if you have the budget to spend on more pellets. The worst (and best) part is that the zeolite pellets are no good at masking the smell of poops. This works well for me, because it forces me to scoop as soon as my cat takes a dump. But, the room does smell bad afterwards. Although I've never had an issue with smelling the cat urine, the pad absorbs it very well. My cat, however, disagrees with my preferences. He has instead chosen to pee on whatever fabric he finds laying on my floor (clothes, blankets, etc.) because he does not like the litter system. I can only assume it has to do with the smells sticking around, or perhaps the texture of the pellets. Either way, after 5 months of this I will unfortunately be parting ways with my Purina Breeze system, and be returning to the shackles of clay litter. 4/5, would recommend Purina Breeze!

I really liked my Breeze litter box, but now I LOVE it. Seriously, this hack is life changing. I have to share it with the world. With my regular Breeze system, there was still rank urine odor I just had to live with. Also, my cats pee a lot and that pad would get pretty soaked and smell even more. This new method, dare I say, is perfect? Why you need to do this. -It's really easy to do. -There is zero pee smell. ZERO. The only scent you get is fresh pine. -It's sooo easy to clean. -As long as you scoop out the solids, the litter is like fresh liter. Every. Single. Day. Forever and ever. -It's so inexpensive. I found the hack on Youtube (Thank you Victorian Gardens Cattery). Here is what you need: -Puppy pads 30 x 23 -Equine pine bedding (about $7.50 for 40 pounds) or pine litter (more expensive) -So Phresh plastic cat box from Petco 19.25x13 x 5 (or other plastic bin with the same dimensions) *Note: If you have the older version of the Breeze litter box, use Petmate large litter pans. -Standard or hooded Breeze cat box Step 1: Put a puppy pad in the Petco litter box Step 2: Take out the tray from Breeze litter box (you don't need it anymore) Step 3. Place the Breeze litter box inside Petco box. It will fit snugly with room underneath to catch the sawdust Step 4. Place a generous amount of pine pellets in the Breeze cat box (ah, pine smell) Now all you have to do is scoop the solids and give it a stir with the scooper when your cat urinates. The pine absorbs the pee, turns to sawdust and falls through the Breeze slats. To clean the sawdust, just get out a new pad, lift the Breeze box off and place on the puppy pad. Take the corners of the old pad, draw them together and toss it in a bag. Now all you have to do is pick up the pad and Breeze box and place in the Petco litter pan. That's it. There is something so satisfying about stirring the pellets and seeing the sawdust disappear, leaving only fresh pine behind, that it stops being a chore. Original Review: This litter box has changed my life. The worst part of cleaning the litter box were the clumps of urine. Yuck. Now there's no smell, cleaning the box is a -pardon the pun- a breeze, and there isn't litter tracked all through the house. Being the frugal person that I am, I came up with my own pellet and pad alternatives. I tried both and they work just as well for odor control and easy clean up. Everyone knows about the puppy pads. That's an easy one. But replacing the pellets wasn't as obvious...until I found a package of dried navy beans in my pantry. Epiphany! They worked perfectly. They were cheap, didn't absorb the urine (if you've ever had to soak beans, you know it takes a long time for them to absorb water), the right size, the right texture, biodegradable and white like the pellets, so aesthetically pleasing. The cats took to the mixture of navy beans and pellets with no problem. Pinto beans are even cheaper, but I liked the look of the white navy beans. The cost breakdown is below. Pellets $2.27/pound (Walmart online 3.5 pounds/$7.96) to $2.28/pound (Amazon bulk of 21 pounds/$47.94 Navy Beans-$1 to $1.30 a pound (grocery store) Pinto Beans- 74 cents a pound (Walmart 4 lbs/$2.98) Regular Breeze pads- $1.05 a pad (Amazon bulk of 60 for $60) to $1.34 a pad (Walmart online 4 pads/$5.36) Puppy pads- 15 cents a pad (Costco 100/$15 ) to 28 cents a pad (Walmart 14 pads/$4) Hope this helps others because the cost of the pellets and pads kept me away from this litter box for years. I'm so glad I made the switch. I added a photo showing 2 pounds of navy beans added to the pellets.

My original review along with several updates got way too long, so I'm re-doing my review after using this sifting box since February. My Conclusion: I highly recommend this product with the following modifications (you can find detailed instructions on YouTube in two videos by a lady who owns a cattery, which I recommend you watch before buying anything): 1. Ditch the tray. You can re-purpose it as a lap tray to eat off of while watching TV or doing homework, or to put under your pet's food dishes. But don't use it to catch the sawdust, as it's not deep enough and you'll have one heck of a mess in the tracks it slides in and out of to deal with when you go to empty it. Instead, I purchased a large size So Phresh litter box on Amazon which fits perfectly under The Breeze, giving a good 5" to 6" to collect sawdust. Now instead of dealing with a mess every time I empty it, and having to do so every 3 days, there is zero mess and I only have to empty it every 2 weeks or so. 2. Ditch the pellets that come with it or donate to a shelter or rescue. Instead, buy the pine pellets they sell for horse bedding, which isn't treated with chemicals and is incredibly cheap. I pay $5.99 for a 40 pound bag that lasts me months for two litter boxes. It works differently than the pellets that come with this system, soaking up urine and turning into sawdust, which falls through the slats into the container below. (Clay litter and clumping litter are unhealthy for both you and your cat, not to mention expensive, heavy to lug around and messy. If you don't want to switch to pine pellets, then ignore these instructions and follow another reviewer's advice on the best way to use the Breeze.) 3. Donate or repurpose the tray-sized pee pads and purchase large puppy pee pads instead. You'll want them to be larger than the So Phresh box. How to Set Up 1. Open and lay a puppy pee pad on the floor. 2. Put the Breeze box on top, centered on all sides of the pad. 3. Lift the pad and box up together and set them down on the So Phresh litterbox you bought for the bottom box. Press slightly on all sides to make sure it's aligned and secure. 4. Add 2" to 3" of the pine pellets. Note: Initially you may have to cover the pellets with your old litter that your cats are used to, and gradually use less and less until they transition completely to pellets. Instructions for Scooping 1. Scoop No. 2 as often as you'd like. It takes literally seconds per box. Some cats poop on top without covering with pellets, while others cover. Either way it's very easy to scoop the poop, as stirring the pellets will cause buried poop to rise to the surface. (Poo smells when they first go but the odor quickly dissipates as it dries.) 2. There is no need to scoop urine anymore with this system. No wet sticky mess or clumps of urine soaked litter stuck to the sides or bottom of the box! Pine pellets almost immediately turn to sawdust when it soaks up urine. All you have to do is to stir the pellets after scooping No. 2 to help the sawdust fall through the slats on the bottom into the pee pad lined box below. 3. You never need to dump the top tray unless it needs cleaned. Mine haven't needed cleaning yet in the 4 months I've been using them. Just add pine pellets as needed after scooping and stirring to maintain a 2" to 3" depth. When you start to see the sawdust through the slats, approximately every two weeks or so depending on how many cats and litterboxes you have, you'll need to empty the bottom box. This is the best part! 4. Open and lay a new pee pad on the floor or flat surface. 5. Pick up the Breeze box, leaving the full puppy pee pad in the bottom box, and lay the Breeze down on the clean pee pad. 6. With a grocery bag open and ready, pick up the full pee pad by the 4 corners, and simply place it in the plastic bag. Tie the bag and throw it away. 7. Pick up the Breeze box with the pad underneath, and place back on top of the bottom box, and you're done. No muss, no fuss. Takes literally seconds per box to empty and you're done for another two+/- weeks. Initially I used the tray before I bought the other litterbox to use for the bottom box, and it was a mess to empty. I could have emptied it every day or two, which might have worked better, but with the method I outlined, I only have to do it every couple of weeks and don't have any mess to deal with. With an actual litterbox underneath to collect sawdust, this system went from great to amazing. Keeping litterboxes clean has never been so easy and fun! I am absolutely in love with the Breeze using this system. I think I'd still use it even I used clay litter, but I'd do it differently, following other reviewers recommendations on how to use with regular or clumping litter. The Breeze is a decent size box, not too big or too small, sturdy and well made. The sides that snap on don't snap on correctly, so you have to use caution when lifting the box to shake it or they'll come off, but that's the only problem I saw with it. Using pine pellets eliminates the need to shake the box, so it's not an issue for me.

21/7/18 - FINAL ADDITION! I have been using these boxes for over 18 months now and I can honestly say, that I cannot see myself every using another option. Until recently, I have had three boxes on the go. But I lost one cat in January and my oldest boy mid-July, so now I am left with one cat and just two boxes. With his brother gone, Maggi happily uses both boxes freely (one was sole domain of the older cat) and spreads his efforts between the two. These boxes are simply the BEST THING AROUND: YES, you can wash the pellets (although they DO start to retain some of the urine smell after a number of months). I still have some original pellets remaining, but I would say that, with cleaning, you're looking at a 4-6 month replacement process. You will also need some spare pellets to replace those that are wasted in cleaning them out each day. YES, you can use other pads in the base - I have tried two different types - generic copies and those designed for humans (to put in the bed - and cut to size). I keep some of the human pads around for emergencies (if my quarterly delivery has not arrived), but the generic ones are not much cheaper than the originals, and they smell more. As others have said - on a monthly basis, drop pellets in (bleach, diluted floor cleaner, Fairy Liquid solution) and hose/shower down the four pieces of the box (a 10 minute process at best). Because I have spare pellets, I refill the boxes with these and leave the dirty pellets to soak for about 24 hours. I then sieve them out the next day, rinse them down, spread them on a tray (now I use the spare green tray from the third set) and let them air-dry. They are then bagged up and ready for the next month's clean. --- APR 2017 EDIT - I gave up trying to migrate the cats (see below) and just gave them just the BREEZE option. They took to it immediately and I've never looked back. I have 3 cats and 2 trays. They tend to pee more in one and poo more in the other, so the pad is replaced more frequently on one of them. That said, 2 pads last approximately 1 week each. Three months into using them and this is what I have observed: • THERE IS NO SMELL - I literally have to be sticking my nose in the saturated pad before I smell the pee. I actually have added a calendar reminder, because once or twice I've forgotten to replace them. The cat's noticed, but I didn't • YOU CAN REWASH THE PELLETS - I have done this twice now (fabric conditioner, warm water, a nice long soak and agitation with gloved hands) and seen no detrimental effect. I cannot guarantee that you will use one bag of pellets forever, but I am in my 3rd month and the only addition to the trays is a sprinkling to augment the few pellets that don't shake off the poo. It's a bit of a chore, but saves the pennies. PADS - I have tried human pads (larger , and designed for beds). They work, but I need to change them daily. A cost-per-day comparison showed them to be pennies cheaper, but the smell increased and they were often soaked so much that pee was flowing the following morning. Use the Breeze pads. They work out (for me) at 28-30 cents a day for three cats. • NOT LEGO - When you tread on them barefoot you notice, but it's hardly the Lego experience that some complain of. They are small and rounded. Sure, I'd prefer NOT to stand on one, but it's fine... • CONSTRUCTION - The four parts (tray, base, filter and surround) are thick plastic, not flimsy at all. 2 of my cats love to dig and no more than a handful of pellets come outside. • COST - OK, these pellets are not cheap, but they outlast regular fullers earth, or clumping litter by a massive factor, making them 'slightly more expensive' that regular options. Factor in the washing option (if you go that way) and they are totally comparable. Even without the washing option, the saving savings made with air fresheners etc, PLUS the fact that the smell is non-existent also has a value. I can see how some cats may not like the transition, but mine are happy with them and, as someone who has used a range of options, this is by far, the best I have ever used. --- ORIGINAL REVIEW It's not the fault of the product makers but, after two weeks, my three cats are only now considering these as legitimate areas to do their business. It seems that under the bed, in the middle of my freshly dry-cleaned duvet or in the shower were more obvious replacements for their old and tired regular trays. That said - the product is well made, well considered, offers sound advice and is a self-contained unit ready to work in two minutes. It's great - My cats are not...

I have 2 Scottish Fold cat which I brought over from Japan when I started working in Germany. In Japan a very similar litter system is found but uses a different completely different type of litter, which I prefer over zeolite litter. However the system is very convenient when needing to take urine sample. It is too bad it is not sold as a regular item here in Europe as it is expensive to import from USA.

Here goes - this may be a long post but please persevere! This has to be the best litter system ever! I have, over the last 3/4 years spent hundreds on different litter systems for our Bengal, I even tried the automatic litter system at £130 and threw it away after only a couple of months. He refused to use anything other than a puppy training pad in a litter tray because of previous kidney-related health issues, and he was the first one to use this tray. He is now, after just a few weeks, properly litter-trained again. The system is so easy to use - I change the pads daily (I have 2 very large breed cats and 2 smaller breed cats) and the trays are washed out and litter completely changed once every 3-4 weeks. I had to clean out other trays/systems every 2/3 days previously. I will add though that I find the pads and pellets that come with the system very expensive. I use Amazon Basics pads at £9 for 40 (the refills for the system are a very costly £10 for 4) and there is very little difference in them. I also use a wood pellet (around £15 for a 30 litre bag) instead of the pellets that comes with the system (priced around £25 for a very small bag that will fill 1 litter tray once). Initially using the pads and litter provided, I found that after 3/4 days they stopped using the tray because they could smell the dirty litter. It does eventually dissolve but takes ages. The wood litter when wet turns to sawdust and falls through to the tray beneath and so every time they go to the toilet it is clean. Obviously poop is scooped when they do it, or as soon after as we can I would also say that you need an old paintbrush or similar to actually clean the seive tray as bits go tend to get stuck. It may seem an expensive system but honestly after the initial cost, and especially if you convert to the other pads and wood pellets, you will not look back.
