Lycra Fiber Swim Cap, Streamlined Swimming Cap for Warm Waters

Speedo and TYR are two of the few brands that still make nylon-Lycra swim caps that fit larger heads (over 7 5/8”), are slip resistant, and do not cover the ears. This design is not intended to keep hair dry. Instead, it keeps hair in place and out of your eyes. I like this cap because it gives excellent sun protection for a thinning scalp. I use it snorkeling, scuba diving, and casual swimming. It fits securely for those activities. It functions great for snorkeling and scuba diving because it doesn’t interfere with a mask or snorkel. Another bonus is that the cap keeps hair from getting tangled in the mask strap or snorkel connector. The fabric has held up well in strong sun, salt water, and after many washings. For anyone who needs a comfortable, ear-free swim cap with real UV coverage with value for the money, I highly recommend this cap.

I did my homework before buying this — read a lot of reviews, and also saw Amazon's warning about the tight fit, and ordered it for my 2yo's swim class. And it was a good call. It fits her snugly without being uncomfortable, stays put in the water, and the lycra is soft enough that she doesn't fuss putting it on — great for temper-mental toddlers 😅. The material is lightweight and breathable. No weird pulling, no red marks after class. The only thing worth mentioning is that I'm not so sure about the "one size." It fits my toddler great, but I genuinely can't picture this on most adults. Just something to keep in mind if you're shopping for an older kid or a grown-up. 😄 If your little one is starting swim lessons and you want something simple, affordable, and pool-ready, this does the job without any drama.

Lycra caps are my favorite. They are more comfortable than latex or silicone because lycra doesn't pull those little baby hairs at the back of the neck. I like to put conditioner in my hair before swimming to protect it from chlorine. Silicone or latex slip right off, before the first lap. Lycra caps stay in place. There is a myth among non-swimmers that latex or silicone caps will keep your hair dry. Don't believe it. Swim a few laps and your hair will be wet, no matter what kind of cap you wear. One disadvantage of lycra: It will relax and stretch after several months' use, just like your lycra swimsuit. My lycra caps give me about 1 year of wear, with weekly use in a chlorinated pool.

TYR makes good swim gear. I only buy Lycra caps as the silicone ones either pull on my hair or gradually migrate upwards off my head. I use a swim cap simply to keep my hair out of my face and not get tangled in my goggle straps. TYR and Speedo swim caps pretty much the same thing. I have a few of these in different colors. Will buy again when this wears out in a few years.

To me this is the best swim cap because it removes the hair pulling and seemingly never drying aspects of the silicone swim caps. This swim cap is so comfortable that I usually forget that I am wearing one after an hour in the lap pool. This is also the only swim cap that I have found that stays in place lap after lap without need for readjustment as the silicon version always road up after launch. The material is soft and very easy to put and take off. If. you wet your hair completely before putting on the swim cap I have found that chlorine "green hair" it not a problem. I am working on replacing all my silicone swim caps with these.

I was honestly shocked by how small this swim cap is. I ordered an adult lycra swim cap so I would have a backup to a no-name brand swim cap that I use regularly. I expected this brand to be superior to the cap I’ve been wearing as I have TYR swimsuits and a TYR swim backpack that I love and use all the time. I actually have a small head and struggle with finding baseball hats that don’t cover half of my ears. This swim cap literally would not go over my head and after my husband helped me get it on my head it sat an inch above my ears. See the measurements in the pictures. I immediately processed a return and sent it back. Maybe I got a kid size in the wrong packaging??? The package was not sealed. If, in fact, what I received was an adult size cap the company needs to go back to the manufacturer and do some quality checks to make sure they are making the caps properly sized for adult-sized heads. Very disappointed!

Why did you pick this product vs others?: TYR is a reputable brand, the product was reasonably priced. Hair hold: It holds hair pretty well but I have short hair so didn't really test it. It fits very tightly around your head even with my short hair. Durability: Poor durability is the main reason why I give it only 3 stars. It lasted about 4 months and then the elastic fibers started breaking. Other swim caps usually last me about 9-12 months with regular 3 swims per week. Thickness: Very thin, very comfortable. Coverage: Covers the whole head if you have short hair. If you have long hair, you'll struggle fitting it in.
