Should it be sprayed (hvlp) or brushed on?

Waterlox can be sprayed using a common HVLP spray gun. You may need to thin it as per the instructions from the Waterlox website: https://www.waterlox.com/project-help/guide?id=f315ee99-c567-4b63-93d3-1b92739334aa You need to use the Waterlox Marine Sealer or the original Sealer & Finish first. Wait 24 hours and then apply the Waterlox Marine finish. I like the satin finish on my outdoor furniture, versus the gloss.

Is this food safe for kitchen countertops?

No do not use this where you would prepare food.

Can you use this on a live edge bar outside.

I think their recommendation would be to use Exterior Satin. I’ve used it in old shutters with good results.

Can this be used for a butcher block countertop?

I have only used this product on exterior doors and patio furniture. I do not know the safety issues with using this on a food prep area. I suggest you contact Waterlox directly and inquire. They are very knowledgeable and helpful.
