There are all kinds of ways to scratch the screen while operating outside. Just think of all of the dirt and grime just in the air and then grinding it in with your finger let alone an accidental bump or scrape. I put one on my 7300 home station radio as well just in case. I have not notices any negative effect on the touch screen response. I took the picture with the flash on and, as you can see, it reduces the glare as well.
