Thus far, this laptop has exceeded my expectations, but there has been a problem with the sleep function.
I've had this laptop for several days and thus far it has exceeded my expectations. The wireless adapter has worked flawlessly from any point in my home. Using Speedtest, I clocked downloads at 185 mbps and uploads at 25 mbps. This is roughly equal to the upload and download speeds of my hardwired desktop computer. I am going to be using the laptop quite a bit over the next several weeks and will be updating this review after its shakedown period.June 6, 2016 Update - After the computer was automatically updated to the latest Windows 10 build, the sleep function does not work properly. If I close the cover and open it, I get a blank screen. The only way to recover is to hold the power button for 5 seconds and reboot. (The hibernate function appears to work and I am using that when the cover closes.). I contacted Asus tech support via their website and they wrote back saying the the computer is not Windows 10 certified. Needless to say, they are a bit confused. I wrote back and asked them to provide me with the correct solution.June 8, 2016 Update - Asus support staff have now advised me to update a driver and bios. But both the driver and the bios are the latest versions. Still no resolution to the problem.June 12, 2016 Update - I'm now being advised to reset Windows which would involve re-installing all of my programs. I have the sense that the technical support staff at Asus use the same solution for every problem: update the drivers, update the bios and reset Windows, They make no attempt to review installation logs or do any real troubleshooting.June 16, 2016 - Because the problem with the sleep function has been unresolved and appears to be an issue with other users, I have downgraded my rating.July 26, 2016 - After reading many posts from other users and trying a variety of fixes, I believe that I have solved the sleep problem -- at least for the moment. In looking at the properties of the video driver, I noticed that the version on my laptop was installed after I received the computer. This must have happened when Microsoft automatically installed a new build of Windows shortly after I received the laptop. I downloaded and installed the older version of the video driver from the Asus website and the problem resolved itself. (During the installation, I received a warning the I was replacing a new driver with an older version. I proceeded nevertheless.) I suspect that the problem will reemerge when Window does another update, so I'll need see if automatic driver updates can disabled. Based on what I've read, Intel video drivers are tweaked by manufacturers to work with their computer models and problems can occur when generic drivers are downloaded from Intel's website. If that's the case, then Microsoft's automatic updates of Windows can cause systems to fail or have problems. One would like to think that Asus support would know this or that they would be updating their drivers as Intel updates the generic version. Either way, Asus is not providing good service to their customers. I still like the computer, but I can't say that it is a good value for the money since I have spend so much time trying to fix the problem.August 26, 2016 - It's been nearly a month since I fixed the sleep issue and the laptop has performed flawlessly since then. I've put it through some heavy use on the road, using it for long periods of time. The battery lasts a full workday. The wifi connects quickly to hot spots and stays connected. Both Excel and Word load quickly and work without a hitch. I rarely hear the fan come on, and that's only happened when I was doing some video editing. Windows updates have installed without a problem. On the whole, I am very happy with this laptop and have recommended it to a few friends. Given its price point, this model deserves to be a leader in it class, but only if Asus improves its customer service and quality control.

The Computer that Won't Wake Up---with a faulty Trackpad and mediocre Speakers
First off, it's an attractive computer. It's very lightweight, easy to carry around, and the finish is nice (although prone to getting fingerprint markings). I've had it for maybe 2 months now and I didn't have a "big" problem until today. I'm not completely familiar with this computer yet, so I didn't know that we could switch the default Sleep mode to Hibernate---which I preferred--- so whenever I closed my laptop, it automatically went into sleep mode. It used to just wake back up whenever I pressed the power button once, but this morning, I opened the lid and moved the mouse and pressed on the power button and there was just a black screen. I thought perhaps it ran out of juice, so I plugged in the charger. It charged to till the light on the side went from red to green but the screen was still black. I thought I was going to have to send it back to Asus or something, which is not ideal. So then I pressed on the power button for a few seconds until it shut down and I powered it back up and the screen came back to life. I had to reboot it, as a few reviewers did, and then I purposely put it on sleep mode (both pressing the actual sleep function and closing the lid) to see if it'll still work, but the screen was still black, so I had to reboot both times. It's a hassle. As one reviewer suggested, I went on Settings and changed the default in the "Change what the closing lid does" from Sleep to Shut down for when I press the power button and then to Hibernate for when I press the sleep button and when I close the lid. I don't have this problem with the Hibernate function, just the sleep (for now anyway).A few days ago I forgot to shutdown my computer and so it went to sleep for a full day and when I picked it up I noticed it was really warm at the bottom, and now I'm having this problem, so coincidence? As for the trackpad---oh man, this was the main problem with this computer. It has a beautiful matte screen and an okay keyboard, but the trackpad could be A LOT better. There are "smart gestures" and I tried to utilize them and they work fine, but then sometimes when I'm resting my palm by the trackpad and I'm trying to scroll down a page, it misinterprets it and does something else, like maximize my screen (took me a while to get my Google Hangouts chat back to the original size).Other than the trackpad and the sleep mode, this is a pretty solid computer. It boots up within seconds and has great graphics. It's pretty fast, though I've been living with dinosaur computers, so this is an upgrade for me. And the battery is AWESOME (I get maybe 7 hours from watching shows and movies and having multiple tabs open at once). Oh, and the speakers aren't impressive either (wish they had placed it above the keyboard or something so we could hear better). I'm debating on getting bluetooth speakers, but it's great for earphone users. Overall, I like it. I would still recommend it.

Love this laptop!
I love this laptop! I am a longtime Apple user but I was underwhelmed with the new Macbook offerings, so I looked around a bit for something else of better value, and I am soooo happy I got this. It's thin and light, the battery lasts a full day of work, and the colour is awesome.Shipped quickly too!
