Q: I just bought a new one and it's not writing. Is there something I need to remove something so it starts working?

Regular pen cartridges don't work with the pen so you need to make certain you have the right ink cartridge. This is a great pen but they do need to be cleaned ever so often and there are some papers that will clog the pen point so make sure the point is free of any obstruction. I've never had any problems with them and have purchased others for my friends but sometimes a defective item. If you can't clean it you might contact Amazon and request a replacement. I've used the old Rapidograph pens and quill points and will never go back because this pen is truly incredible.

Q: What sort of ink refills work with these pens? The ones recommended by amazon are too expensive to be sustainable

Pull up the pen on Amazon and it'll show the cartridge under items people also purchase with this pen. (They only come in two packs). This pen has me spoiled.

Q: you can replace the nib?

As far as I know, you can't. I don't see anyone selling a spare nib for the pen.

Q: What is the line thickness?

About the equivalent of a crow quill. As thin as .1 or .2mm and as thick as maybe .5 depending on your pressure.
