Pee-Wee's Playhouse-The Complete Collection

What a trip back to Saturday mornings in the 80s. For a while, I used to watch this almost every Saturday. I remember watching it with my brother, and sometimes with my cousins who would have sleepovers at my house, and we'd always have a good laugh. We'd laugh at the show and say it was silly. That classic theme song sung by Cyndi Lauper and the show openings were great. I even remember seeing an advertisement for a new show coming to tv, Perfect Strangers, that was to become another favorite show of mine, during a commercial break while watching this show.Watching it now as an adult, I can see how odd, crazy and great the show was. It's still very funny. My family watched the dvds together and we all got a good laugh. Sometimes, I focus on the show and it's ability to make me laugh now. Other times, I really get into the nostalgia as the show totally takes me right back to childhood. That feeling of sitting on the sofa, or a sleeping bag on the floor, in the living room, watching our old tv set, and eating a bowl of cereal.

If you are familiar with the show, then you know what you are getting yourself into with this buy. I have always been a big fan of the Pee Wee movies and shows. I wish that he would have been wiser in his personal life and I'd feel less creepy having my kids watch these shows. Regardless, my kids love this boxset. I love watching these shows with them too. This is a good price for a lot of Pee Wee entertainment. Santa brought this one to us for Christmas. The included Christmas special is also very neat to watch, he had a lot of Hollywood stars on that show, it was amazing to see how many people wanted to be a part of Pee Wee's Christmas special.

Ok, it's about time folks. The excitement I felt as a child surely shone thru when I about did cartwheels when I got this in the mail. Nothing has been remastered in anyway, which some find a bit of a dissapointment. But, it is true to the way the origional show looked on my TV screen back in the day. My daughter, who is 6-also has found much love for Pee-Wee and all his friends. Not sure why it took me so long to get this in my hands, but I'm totally thrilled this box set was available-and for such a great price for the entire collection. I HIGHLY recommend this for any tried and true Pee-Wee fans such as myself.

Shame it wasn't cleaned-up more. Often the video comes across as a very clean/excellent recording from an SP mode VHS cassette, instead of a DVD. It appears barely any work was done to the picture and sound; little effort was put into and video or sound (re)mastering. Still the content and quality of the show is excellent, and the collection is far from poor in appearance...Still wish more 'love' was put into it though.The series is well worth the money spent and is highly recommended for purchase. Hopefully, a Blu-Ray "cleaned-up" version will be made down the road. This series deserves a 5-star treatment and restoration.

I can't believe this came out when my son was born in 1986 so I of course needed a bit of refreshing. Luckily I missed a lot of episodes so it's great fun watching for the first time. Fast paced wit is not just for kids. In fact most kids will miss most of the jokes but still enjoy the show. Sort of like The Simpsons, a lot of adult humor over the heads of most kids. Utterly zany. A nice pick-me-up after a bad day. Where did he get the energy????

I have to admit that this collection really took me back to childhood memories. Pee Wee's antics were very lively and created a playful atmosphere around the Playhouse. Randy, to me, was the funniest character amongst the friends of the Playhouse. The classic scene was when they all decided to organize a daily newspaper and as always Randy wanted to add is own spicy creative ideas. The collection went for a great price. Even came with the bonus Christmas special DVD. Knowing entertainment is realizing what a hilarious show that Pee Wee's Playhouse presents.

I saw this item on sale and talked my self out of buying it. I ended up kicking myself later until I found a better deal here on Amazon and snagged it.The packaging is very nice; it'd make a great gift.Brings back tons of memories and was actually still entertaining to watch. I was surprised that my 10 year old sister even picked up on it which is saying a lot.I had no defective disks as others have had issues with. Everything worked fine.

So excited to buy this! Pee Wee's Playhouse was my go to Saturday morning show! This came on time, but as you can see one case was really broken down the spine and another was chipped. My only gripe for now, I will update after I have watched all episodes.

We love pee wee and his Saturday morning shows were always a hit with my kids from toddlers onwards.

Certainly one of the craziest children's tv programmes ever, Pee-Wee's Playhouse also qualifies as one of the casually craziest TV broadcasts of any type and I'm including religious broadcasts in that! I was not sure how I'd react to this - I'm 24 - but, nostalgia being such a burdonsome desire, and the knowledge in my head that I have always loved Pee-Wee's Big Adventure and had a soft spot for Big Top Pee-Wee, I've decided to revisit Pee-Wee's Playhouse and I was not disappointed.First things first, this is not the same style of humour of either of Pee-Wee's feature films. While the character is broadly the same (a wonderful alien child man), in Pee-Wee's Playhouse, Pee-Wee's environment is as alien as he is! Everything in the room is sentient and vocal and there is almost no linear progression within an episode (though suprisingly there are actual arcs, such as the Salesman plotline, over the course of the series!), which brings me to the aesthetic at work here and it's duality epitomised by the theme song - first calm, euphoric and ethereal, then cartoony and obnoxious. The whole programme vacilitates back and forth between the coolly wonderful and the loudly silly, leaving an unexpecting adult viewer to sit back as the strangely sad yet surreal end credits (which I remembered from my childhood being very fast, but I didn't give them enough credit - they just ZIP by!) and wonder how this thing got made. It's not enough that it was a well-deserved hit as a reaction to the soulless toy adverts prolific in the 1980s (She-Man, Thunderbrats, Transformozoids), or that it was ostensibly a kid's show with the occasional adult joke in it (the episode "Camping Out" has more campy innuendo than you can handle) and music by Mark Mothersbaugh (whose band DEVO did lots of creepy songs, and now scores movies), Danny Elfman (who cut his scoring teeth on Pee-Wee) and The Residents (who once released an album called "Baby Sex" that I believe is now contraband)...it's that, underneath the craziness, I'm sure there is an intelligence at work and a desire to create something that spoke to children more than just to sell them more garbage.
