The Bribe: Calamity Montana, Book 1
🎧🎧AUDIO REVIEW🎧🎧PERFORMANCE REVIEW & RATING: 5 STARSAva Erickson & Jason Clarke have very rarely disappointed, and they didn’t this time! Loved their narration! Well done!STORY REVIEW & RATING: 4.5 STARSI really enjoy how Devney Perry writing as Willa Nash always has a mysterious air to her stories that never overshadow the romance journey. This story in particular sticks out with this point because of the extreme nature of the mystery plot-point. It’s been a couple of years since this story published so I feel okay about just saying what needs to be said and not be afraid of spoilers so … Lucy’s stalker wasn’t just an annoyance she was trying to ghost. The stalker was legit dangerous but instead of dragging that danger into the journey in Calamity, Devney made a choice to focus on the romance and have the ‘stalker’ be a plot-point that was being told to us and not really living it present day. Make sense? Until the end, of course, when it all came to a head.I dunno, but I really liked this choice because it allowed me as the reader to focus on Lucy and Duke in the now and how they grew their relationship and how Lucy was becoming a part of the community. The ‘drama’ didn’t get in the way of building the romance. HUGE PLUS!Also, even though this is a ‘small-town’ setting, Devney didn’t throw in all the typical shenanigans of small-town living into the mix. It would have been really easy because of who Lucy was to throw in all the busybody, in your face, everyone knows everything shenanigans in the mix of Lucy’s journey, but that would have ruined the space that Lucy & Duke needed to grow their relationship, etc etc etc.I really loved this story and I’m about to dive into the next book because I’m incapable of just reading one book without binging LOL if they’re already published, and I feel good about this series!

Duke and Lucy
This was such a fun book. It was low angst and I loved that all the drama happened outside Lucy and Duke’s relationship. Their meet cute was so perfect for a book set in Montana. I loved the secret identity trope!Lucy and Duke had a bit of an insta love journey. They both had moments where they questioned their feelings, when Duke realized Lucy had given him a fake name and for Lucy, when Duke took the bribe to keep her name quiet. But they quickly learned their initial impressions of each other were right.I loved how protective Duke was of Lucy and his town. He went out of his way to keep everyone safe and was a respected member of Calamity, not just because he was the sherif. Lucy found her place in Calamity. Once she decided she was done hiding she found peace in the small Montana community.I loved the suspense at the end. I never would have guessed who the stalker was, but the ultimate villain was clear from the beginning. I loved the little side story with Travis and the way Duke cared for him like his son. This was the perfect introduction to Calamity. There were so many secondary characters who popped in and out and it’ll be interesting to see how they all get their stories down the road.

love at first hike 😉
This book had love at first sight, secret identities, musicians on the run, small town heroes, mystery and intrigue, and spice. (I would give it a 3 🌶️ on the spice scale).Overall, this book sucked me in. That said, I felt like the love interests got together almost too easily. I wanted a little bit more pining and angst, but if you want a page one, instant love, then this is the book for you.I rushed through the second half of the book because I really wanted to find out who Lucy was running from. The authors did a good job of making you believe it was anyone so you were left wondering the entire time!

WHAT IS IN THIS SMALL TOWN CRACK?
I literally don’t think Devney can do any wrong. I read the Eden series and Coach before hopping into this one and I am just OBSESSED. I am not usually one for suspense but I eat it up in the way that Devney adds it to the plot. Lucy and Duke were so gooey lovey and delicious from the moment they met and I love them so much. I also had ideas of who the stalker was the entire time and I like how she threw a whole 180 in there with someone we wouldn’t have already known.

The sheriff and the country music star
THE BRIBE is the first book in the Calamity Montana series. I decided to read it because I am waiting for the next book in The Eden’s series to come out and I love the way Devney Perry crafts a small town romance with just the right amount of suspense.I want to say Duke falls first, but I think he is just more decisive than Lucy. He is everything I love in a male MC - devoted. Or only to his girl, but to other people, too.Despite her fame and reason for coming to Calamity, Lucy didn’t have a lot of stand out qualities, but it was clearly her life that drove the story.I can see this becoming a really good series and this town and it’s people growing on me.

The Bribe…
First in a series located in Calamity Montana, this story is about a country western singer who is being stalked. She has fled Nashville and once she has arrived in Calamity she meets the sheriff. She was speeding and he pulls her over. Except she actually met him in Yellowstone when he “saved” her from some bison. She doesn’t want to let anyone know who she is. He’s intent on finding out what she’s up to.Nice little story. Her Devney books have a lot of heart that this doesn’t quite match. It’s a nice one though. I might get the next one as it’s about the BFF, who I liked.KU read…

4.5*
This book lived up to every expectation. Willa Nash aka Devney Perry can do no wrong! She nails the cute, small town romance with an underlining of suspense, sprinkled with a little bit of spice! This story follows Lucy and Duke.Lucy Ross has run away from her life of stardom in Nashville. When she meets a handsome stranger whilst staring in the eyes of a bison, she immediately gives him a fake name, wanting to distance herself from her old life. What she doesn’t expect is for said handsome stranger to pull her over when she arrives in her new town of Calamity. Her cover is blown and not even days after escaping her old life someone knows her identity.Enter Duke Evans, the Sheriff. When he pulls Lucy over, he’s pleasantly surprised to see the beautiful woman he met days previously. However as soon as he finds out her true identity he feels cheated and is left wondering what, famous country singer Lucy Ross, is doing in his small town and why did she tell him she was Jade Morgan.I’m absolutely in love with Lucy and Duke! They’re so cute together and I adored their relationship! I adored the mystery that ran throughout, as always it had me guessing till the very end! I’m super excited to continue with this series!

I *sprinted* into the next book, tbr be damned and I loved it even more. This series is going to be a favourite of mine, I can already tell. Good small town romance
Another small town setting which I love, i enjoy the quietness and community feel of books set in these types of towns. This is a romance between Duke and Lucy where she is a major country singer and she has essentially come to this small town to be away from the limelight. She rents a country house in the area where Duke lives.Duke is instantly attracted to her and straight away he thinks he recognises her so she tries to bribe him to keep quiet.Sexy, romantic and a great small town feel

Fantastic Storytelling from Willa Nash
When I heard that The Bribe was actually written by Devney Perry under the pen name of Willa Nash it was a no brainer for me to buy this book and I have to say this tale set in the mythical town of Calamity, Montana – and yes, I googled to check it wasn’t a real place - shoots straight into my personal top ten of releases this year. The Bribe has everything I love in a book – a small town setting, drama, suspense, humour, hot chemistry and to a certain degree realism. Yes, I know Jade/Lucy is supposed to be a big country & western star but as a character she’s written as being someone who is completely down to earth and singing is just what she does, it’s not her life! Duke is just an all-round nice guy while still retaining that alpha vibe. You could almost picture him helping little old ladies across the street. The romance between them builds gradually with some minor drama but on the whole, when they are together they fit like a jigsaw almost as if it was fate that drew them to each other all the while the spectre of the stalker lurks in the background, not taking over the plot but just adding enough suspense so the reader is aware their path isn’t going to be all plain sailing.I loved how the author ‘s imagination created Calamity. Her descriptions are so vivid I can picture the town in my mind and I loved the history lesson of how the town’s name came about. There’s a host of secondary characters who are all genuinely nice without being boring and hopefully they’ll make appearances in future books. There honestly isn’t anything in this book I could say I didn’t like and when I got to the very last page I had a smile on my face especially with the added bonus of not one but two epilogues. I can’t wait for Everly’s story when The Bluff releases early next year.
