Amazing
This 500mg dosage is what you want! Our gallbladder can hold and release when needed about 50,000mg of bile to emulsify the food we eat. Without all 50,000mg dumping into the small bowel we inevitably gain weight, become sick and ill, and be nutritionally deficient. This product contains 500mg of bile. If you don't have a gallbladder then your liver can only dump say 1,500mg of bile to emulsify our diet. 1,500mg is far from sufficient. That's why the dosage should be adjusted to get the full of effect. I'm a 25 year old male and I have a healthy gallbladder with no stones in my liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and kidney's. This was confirmed via a ultrasound of all my organs. I have done over 30 liver and kidney flushes though and take Livatone plus which has helped me in ways words cannot describe. Weight loss comes automatically and a healthier happier you will result. The only con for this is the dosage. They should offer a higher dosage version with 5,000mg of bile so we can really get the full benefit that bile does for us. I notice HUGE improvements in digestion from taking 4 capsules at a time no matter when on an empty stomach or after a meal. Bile eliminates bloating 100%. If you feel bloated and fat and your tummy sticks out. You need this product! Again our gallbladders are supposed to release 50,000mg of bile into our small intestines to emulsify our diet, break down our diet and carry our diet at a cellular level to all of our cells in our entire body. Everything you eat, breathe, touch, smell, and see is absorbed into our bodies and are pumped in the bloodstream to our liver. From there the liver and gallbladder work together to carry emulsify the contents and shuttled throughout our bodies to rejuvenate tissues. Bile works closely with lymph fluid in waste removal and that's what bile is for! It's there to enable our bodies to absorb and benefit from what we eat, drink, smell, breathe, see, and feel. Without sufficient amounts of bile in our digestive system everthing we absorb is not used to benefit our bodies instead without bile's help. These contents are pumped throughout our bodies with no potential to benefit us but to only be stored as waste. As these contents stagnate our bodies become sickly and unhealthy. The contents rots, stagnates, and continuously pollutes our bodies instead of being broken down and used to feed our cells and rejuvenate our cells. Works great for my lazy gallbladder
I've been diagnosed with gallstones as of February 2013. I opted to treat my gallbladder holistically and have been doing monthly liver/gallbladder flushes since. I changed my diet, went vegan mostly, vegetarian 100%. I had not been in the hospital once since my diagnosis and having been told I MUST have my gallbladder surgically removed. Despite the success of the flushes, and no more acute attacks, I noticed my gallbladder was still lazy. I was still constipated and had putrid smelling gas. Everything I was eating was literally rotting and fermenting in my intestines because I was not producing enough bile for proper digestion. I was hesitant to try this supplement, because it is an animal bi-product and I'm off ingesting animals. But it was pretty much my only option other than surgery. I'm so glad I tried this, it is FANTASTIC. I have regular bowel movements, no more gas and bloating. My gallbladder no longer sits in my abdomen feeling bruised. I take one 500mg capsule with each meal, and for me, this dosage is perfect. I only get the runs when I take a 500mg with a small snack. So when eating smaller amounts of food, take a 125mg dose instead. Or, don't snack. Eat three square meals per day, period. Irregular eating schedules make gallbladder pissed off anyway. I finally feel like my digestion is "normal" again. As my gallbladder continues to heal, I should be able to wean myself off this suppliment, but for now, I strongly recommend this for ANYONE with gallbladder issues.

No Gallbladder + Constipation = Need This
Most folks have diarrhea after gallbladder removal, because the excess bile produced that would usually store there is just constantly dumped into the intestines. For some, like me, however, we have the opposite issue: constipation. This has something to do with the liver producing less and less bile, and the gallbladder performing less and less. Usually the gallbladder dumps when fat is detected in the meal. However, if you got suckered into the high-carb fad of the 90's then you probably ate very little fat. Without much fat in your diet the gallbladder doesn't exercise and dump as much. This leaves it full of bile that stagnates into stones. I switched from a high-carb diet to an Atkins protein diet... and that's when I got gallstone attacks. My gallbladder had stagnated for so long it was just full of stones. My liver had also stagnated, and stopped producing much bile. I had my gallbladder removed in 2001, and since then it was a downward spiral of health issues. I slowly gained weight (200lbs to 300lbs). Joint issues, allergies, fatigue, constipation (which eventually turned foul as bacteria overgrew my system)... the issues mounted. Doctors told me it was because I didn't exercise and was gaining weight. All of the research I did pointed to fatty acid deficiency. I craved fatty foods, so I ate them a lot. I didn't digest very well, so I was bloated for hours after a meal and burping it up and not wanting to do anything. I was gaining weight, so obviously I was digesting fat in a way to store it, but I always felt like I wasn't getting something from my food. I'd eat lean meats and felt like they were cardboardish, like they were missing something. (The fat I was craving). So, one day I decided to get some bile supplement. Turns out it's a pain in the rear to find it (no health stores want to carry it for some strange reason). But, it was what I needed. First, bile is digestive aid that helps your body process fatty acids and fat soluble vitamins in a way that it can use them instead of just store them. Likewise, bile is part of the digestive system's flushing process. Without it, the normal bacteria in your system starts to get out of control. (Exacerbated if you're taking probiotics). The main problem with this product (as some have stated) is that the dose is very high. 500mg is a lot for some of us, as we end up with the runs. 250mg would be great, but they don't make that dose. I've tried other bile supplements (cholacol, etc) and they just don't work like Nutricology's. I take one 500mg capsule once a day, trying to dose it with my fattiest meal. I also take all of my vitamins at that meal (since it helps utilize the fat soluble vitamins). One pill is enough. When I eat lean meat now I no longer feel like something is missing, and I no longer crave fat and tank up on it (which was an overcompensation method of the body to get something it was missing). My body flushes itself out, so bacteria is kept in check and i no longer suffer when eating fermented foods. Food digests in a timely manner, so I'm no longer bloated and burpy and immobile for hours on end waiting for it to digest. Energy level is up. Mental clarity is up. Fatty acids and fat soluble vitamins are critical to health, and you don't realize that until you've been suffering with deficiency for years. I sometimes run out of the supplement, and forget to order more. I don't notice an immediate issue. Instead it's a matter of a month or two that I end up on this downward spiral ... I gain weight, don't digest well, start craving fat, overeat fatty foods ... and I'm wondering why I feel so miserable. Then I remember I stopped taking the supplement because I ran out. I order more, it shows up, and within days I'm feeling better. It's ridiculous that my liver has decided to shut down production so much that I need to take a supplement, but at least I'm one of the few that knows what's going on and has found a fix.

Has kept me from having gallbladder surgery for more than 10 years now!!!
Most people write reviews on here for taking after gallbladder surgery!!!! I have had a couple large gallstones (too big to pass verified with ultra-sound imaging) for over 10 years now, and taking these have kept me from having my gallbladder removed surgically since I started taking them somewhere around 7 years ago now!!! I take one to two everyday, but when it was bad I took one or two with every meal. This has kept me from having gallbladder attacks. The reason many people develop cholesterol stones is from a lack of bile, which makes the cholesterol turn into stones since there isn't enough bile to keep it in liquid form. This will help keep your gallbladder from sludging up with cholesterol and prevent gallbladder attacks (especially with fatty meals). I also take Rowachol along with it if I feel like my gallbladder is flaring up. Ox bile and Rowachol are the only two things that have ever helped for me! This is something you have to stick with everyday though to avoid surgery for many many years, and you might have to take it for the rest of your life if you elect not to have the surgery like I have. But 7 years latter I still have my gallbladder even though I went to the ER two times previously before I discovered this and Rowachol and as long as I stick to taking the Ox bile everyday I don't have gallbladder attacks. You have to take more if you eat deep fried food or greasy red meat as I noticed those were triggers for me if I didn't take the ox-bile. It is best to avoid when possible though.

If you have a low thyroid...
I writing this to help someone else that may have had this same situation. I have a low thyroid that is currently untreated. I have had severe constipation for a couple years now. I was admitted to the hospital about 2 1/2 years ago related to that issue. I was advised to take stool softeners . Did not help at all. I found the only thing that works for me is drinking a bottle of magnesium citrate every weekend to clear. I also have so much bloating even after doing that every week. I thought I would try this thinking gallbladder problems could be contributing to it. I have done nothing different than take this as directed for two days. On the second day (yesterday) I began having heart palpitations - and they continued today. I researched and found out this can make hypothyroid issues worse. I am now going to stop taking this and see if the palpitations go away. A few places said that this would help with conversion of t4 to t3 (0r reverse) but I did not read that it might cause me problems. Just be aware if you are hypothyroid that you pay attention to things that might be showing you this supplement might not be right for you. I hope that helps someone else :)

Good product - but try the 125mg first
Let me first state that I have no criticism of the product itself; however, I would recommend to anyone trying ox bile for the first time to try the 125mg capsule first (also sold by Nutricology on Amazon). I started taking the 500mg after reading that it helped with bloating post gall bladder removal. It did do that, but was just too potent for me, even with merely one capsule a day with dinner. I was concerned there was some sort of reaction with the digestive enzymes and probiotic I also take daily, which I have had great success with and never any problems, but everything I read said each person much figure out the right combination of these products in order to receive the benefits of them. I had also read so much about the benefits of ox bile post gall bladder removal that I ordered the 125mg capsules. I now take one capsule twice a day, with meals, sometimes a third with my morning meal if I have more than my usual oatmeal or hard boiled egg, and my body is tolerating it just fine. After only a few weeks I have already seen some of the positive results I had hoped to see. UPDATE - 8/23/12 I wanted to provide an update as to my experience with ox bile 125mg and 500mg. I previously indicated my most problematic issue post-gallbladder removal has been severe and constant bloating. Now, I have it almost completely under control, in large part due to the ox bile. I think for those of us without a gallbladder the most important things to consider when using an ox bile supplement it to take it whenever you eat ANYTHING [along with digestive enzymes], and DOSAGE, and everyone is different. Now that I seem to have it under control I have lost @ 4-5 pounds [most of which was water weight], which being 5'1" is a lot, and even if I do get some bloating [as I still do miscalculate the dose I need] it is minimal and I am able to get rid of it without having to take a water pill, as I used to have to do. After experimenting with dosages I have found the following works for me: 2 - 125mg tabs [250 mg total] with most meals at the beginning or shortly into the meal 1 - 125mg tab with a light meal or snack. 1 - 500 mg tab with high fat meals [almost exclusively at dinner] or if I am drinking anything with alcohol. If I have a few glasses of wine or a couple beers, I will take an additional 250 mgs with any additional beverage [along with digestive enzymes] As a side note, my mom, who is 82, takes 1 500 mg a day [still has her gallbladder] and has lost 12 pounds, doing nothing different. So, get both doses and experiment with the dosing based upon what you eat. The results are worth it! I still have occasional stomach discomfort if I take too much, but its a small price to pay to get rid of the bloating.

Works very well
My gallbladder was removed about 30 years ago, when I was quite young, and had no further problems until about ten years ago, when digesting dairy products, fruits, and vegetables became difficult. I began taking lactase enzymes and Beano religiously to prevent the symptoms of intolerance. That was most inconvenient, particularly in restaurants, and I felt that I had to take increasing quantities, with no guarantee of results. To make matters worse, my new doctor wanted me to start a diet that consisted mostly of foods that were healthier, but more problematic for my digestive system. In desperation, I found the website of an M.D. who recommended that people who don't have a gallbladder take a bile supplement to aid digestion, and ordered these capsules. I take one with lunch and one with dinner, and have experienced such an improvement that I am no longer afraid to eat anything and have stopped relying on other supplements. I am a small person, and was afraid that 500 mg might be too much for me, but it has been just right. I told my doctor about this, by the way, and she had no objection except to say that the supplement would probably not be needed at breakfast, when I was not taking it anyway.
