Review: Better design than previous model - I have several older models of this lamp, and I hesitated to get this newer model. Now, I am glad that I purchased it. The newer model is much more sturdier in terms of the neck and base, although I can tell right away that it will become loose just like the older models. The lamp area is definitely an improvement. I am not sure whether it is because of the lamp's design or the coating underneath where the bulb is housed, but it emits much more light than the older models I have.
Review: bad reviews are unfounded - To those who wrote bad reviews concerning this product not being able to hold its own weight of the light bulb. This is truly unfounded, as anyone with any minor mechanical know how to read instructions, each articulation point has a little knob that you tighten in order to lock the arm into position. That way the light bulb will not pull the unit out of position. If one reads the directions, then one gains this knowledge. Also, a quick inspection of the whole unit by those of us that have a greater understanding of basic stuff like this will grasp this concept with greater speed. I have had nothing but success with this light. It has been adjusted it into many different positions with great success. While the other reviews are correct, the upper portion of this lamp is plastic, it does its job very well and is aesthetically pleasing in most decor. My plants, conures and cockatoos all agree too that this is a great product. Coupled with an outlet timer, this works even better. I set my timer to turn it on just after sunrise and turn off around 8pm. This works great, as it gives maximum UV light time to all my animals and plants in the bird room. I will be getting another unit real soon to put in the main living space where the birds spend a lot of time on the weekends, so I don't have to continuously move the lamp from room to room. One must be keenly aware however. this unit DOES NOT come with a bulb. You will have to purchase this separately, and can in some cases cost just as much as the lamp itself so beware. Aside from the added nuisance of the bulb, this is a five star product and will gladly recommend this lamp to anyone looking for such a product.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: The top of my bird cage is 57 inches from the floor, is the lamp tall enough to bend over the top of the cage and be 12" from the cage, as suggested?**
A: I provide info here based on Zoo Med’s instructions for the 26 watt Zoo Med Avian Sun 5.0 UVB compact fluorescent bulb, sold separately by Zoo Med on Amazon to go with this 72-inch Zoo Med lamp. (The bulb emits UVA, UVB, and visible light.)

Zoo Med’s “Application Chart” (distance guide) for their 26 watt UV bulb:

During Burn-In: Leave 14” to 22” from bulb to cage top (35 to 55 cm).

After Burn-In (after about 100 hours of bulb use): Leave 12” to 18” from bulb to cage top (30 to 45 cm).

Calculated from this guide:

During UV bulb “burn-in” (the first 100 hours of bulb use, when the bulb is super-strong), the tallest cage to safely use with this 72” lamp is 58 INCHES (147 cm) from the same floor the lamp is on.

After the burn-in period, the tallest cage for safe use is 60 INCHES (152 cm) from the floor.

These values are for the *maximum* safe cage height. [Based on Zoo Med’s guide, slightly shorter cages might be preferable.]

**Q: will it keep my birds warm?**
A: No, this light is a full spectrum light designed to simulate sunlight. It isn't for keeping the birds warm. The light in this fixture is good. It is the design of the lamp that I have a problem with.

**Q: i put mine into the ceiling fan light is that ok to put it ijn a house fixture**
A: No Read the instructions after burn in time the light should be 18 inches from the birds perch The 2 week burn in time the light should be 20 inches from perch Please read the instructions that come with it for your birds safety

**Q: Does anyone know if you can put a heat bulb in this lamp?**
A: NO NO NO you can not. I would never even attempt to do something like that !
