Finally a book on iOS programming that ACTUALLY teaches you.
Over the years, in my spare time, I've made numerous attempts to learn iOS programming. Greg's book is probably the 1st time, in all those years and all those attempts, that actually teaches you by giving you ACTUAL projects to work on, instead of just little snippets of code, and exercises, that don't really tie anything together.Greg's book is really THAT good. What I've been doing with the projects in this book, after working thru the chapter and creating the project, I then proceed to create additional iterations of the project, adding my own tweaks in the various iterations, and PROVING to myself that I really have mastered the material and can now move on.The projects Greg throws at you, along with the various elements of iOS that you have to master for THAT project, is the main reason this book is so good and the reason I realized I truly had to repeat the projects, numerous times, to insure the material presented was 'cemented' in my head.I haven't finished the book yet but continue to work thru it in this fashion. If you REALLY want to sit down and FINALLY get enough iOS programming skills under your belt, that you ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND, to allow yourself to jump off on your own and FINALLY start creating your own iOS apps....this is the book to start with.I haven't published an app to the Apple App Store...yet....but as I work thru Greg's book I'm pretty confident I will....soon!One more thing: This is a technical skills author that ACTUALLY RESPONDS TO EMAIL REQUESTS AND QUERIES. Greg has been VERY responsive to email queries which simply makes you more comfortable moving thru the material...knowing that there really IS somebody out there that WILL answer a question or get you over some hump/problem you're having!!

A Quick Start Guide for Xcode!
I have found this book to be and immense help in understanding how coding works today. Like many on here I approach this book with prior knowledge of programming. This has caused some problems for me because I assume I understand the concept. What this book does for me is give me a foundation upon which to stand and learn from. I have “shot my self in the foot” numerous times with misspellings, typos, and reading too quickly through the step by step process. Learning is an investment in yourself. This book gives and shows you how to build a program in Xcode without all the fluff that make the book a doorstop and not a text book. It is in my opinion a “Quick Start Guide for Xcode.”” However, like all basic training it gives you a place from which to grow in knowledge and skill.

Writing is well done. I enjoyed every minute of reading it.
Mr Lim is focused on your learning the Swift language with several screenshots to match his code writing.I thought it was a superb book over all. It even includes widgets. The examples are excellent and easy to follow. If you want to learn Swift code, this is the book for you. Be sure to check out his second book Beginning Swift UI as well.

Chapters one through three were good.
Programming since 1980.Chapters 1,2,3 were very straight forward and it appeared that it would be the swift goto book for me.However, after pouring over Chapter four numerous times and even trying to compare the code sent to me by the author to the books code, the two sets did not match well enough. It is quite possible that it needs to be updated, but I am running the same xCode and Swift versions as stated in the book. It looks like a lot of care was put into the first three chapters. Comparatively chapter four looks rushed. I'm assuming the rest of the book is the same as Chapter four. When I type in the code verbatim errors come up. This in and of itself is not necessarily unusual, however; when teaching, there should be mention of any error that shows up realtime and when it will be addressed. Even with my numerous years of coding and several google searches, something was still missing. I wasn't able to continue. I returned the book. I'm looking elsewhere for IOS/swift tutorials.

Finally an objective and easy to understand book about iOS Programming!
I found this an excellent book to learn the fundamentals of Swift and Core Data for iOS programming! Very educational, objective and easy to follow through the concepts and techniques exposed. The examples are well explained both in the syntax of the Swift language and in the logic of the developed algorithm. It was useful for me, as a financial professional, who needs some basic principles for application development.

Good but lack more readable code expained.
I hope the author do another more extender and graphical content of his books with more details and do not skip highlights.

Quick way to get started
This book just dives in and immediately has you programming. I love that I was able to make a few cool apps in just the first day. It keeps things interesting by diving into neat little projects like working with the camera, ARKit, dark mode, and then in-app purchases. I feel like this book left me with a good base to get started developing apps.

Hard to follow
As a person who has been coding for decade, but somewhat new to this story board programming, I found this book very hard to use successfully. It could be because I was not able to follow the format, or because there were errors. I think it will be good for someone who just needs an update.

Unbelievable wide range of topics with step by step tutorials to build useable apps
I’m new to swift and programming apps. The authors goal is to enable the reader publishing own apps.He shows both, the „old“ (UIKit) AND the „new“ (SwiftUI) way to create UIs. First I was disappointed to see so much UIKit code, but now I know: it is very necessary to have knowledge about it.This book covers a unbelievable wide range of topics with step by step tutorials to build usable apps:+ creating UIs (using different UI elements)+ using Core Data -> To Do List app+ API connection -> Quotes app+ Machine Learning (Core ML) -> Image detection app+ augmented reality (ARKit) -> AR „aircraft“ app, AR furniture app+ SwiftUI (including reusable views) -> Pokemon app+ Widget -> Pokemon widget extension+!!! App Clips (even this one!!!) -> Pokemon app App Clip+!!! Mac Catalyst (… and this one too!!!)+!!! In-App purchases -> Quotes app+ publishing your app on AppStoreWith this book you are definitely able to create your own apps! After this one I read three other books regarding SwiftUI. Every book guides the reader step by step to build apps. This book was the one with the fewest code errors by far!Once I got stuck and I contacted the author via e-mail (as given in the book). He replied nearly immediately, sent me the link for downloading the source codes and voila - problem solved. In my opinion this one was the best by far!I really have to say, that the reviews from Benjamin E. and James C. are not matching my experience at all.

Not for the faint-hearted, but a good starter book for iOS development
I’d never coded in Swift before or for iOS, but had a good coding background in Java and Visual BASIC. I’m only a few chapters in, but this book does give you a good introduction to the language and the concepts needed to generate apps for the iPhone and iPad. It’s not perfect, and there are sections where the author does speed over certain concepts or doesn’t explain them fully. But in general, this book is a good intro to creating apps. I would however say that you’d need a decent background in object orientated programming to get the most out of the book, don’t come to it with no coding background and expect to get the best out of it.
