Q: Is this suitable for an 8 year old?

I have it to my grandson for his 10th birthday and he figured it out in about 15 minutes… less than me and I had the directions! It’s still in use over a year later. I’d say it depends on the 8 year old. If he/she is a rubics cube Minecraft minded spatially aware kid, yes! If not, maybe not yet.

Q: Is the wood finished with a varnish or lacquer or is it unfinished?

It looks like finished with something coz it is shining. But Idk what is on it exactly.. maybe varnish??

Q: Is there one that would hold gift card better than another?

I think they all would hold a gift card!
