Pictorial spectrum of the Ramayana
What, really, does Ramayana mean? Which is the real version? Why this, why that? This work I somehow find thermally to be very similar to Devdutt Pattnaik's (very beautiful) approach with his book Sita, excepting two important points:1. This one has a lot of pictures (it is a coffee table book, and a big one at that!) (Don't hope for great quality photos, page after page, though- it is an amalgamation of images from multiple resources, of varying quality)2. The philosophical/spiritual essence is lesser, and controversies aren't tried and trained out as much. The print is good, not great, but the binding and heft is. Would I recommend buying this as a coffee table book? Sure!

Not as good as DK Mahabharata
I loved DKs Mahabharata book. It had illustrations from all over the world. It was a visual treat for an artist. I bought this with same hopes but illustration variety is limited. Some images are recent digital ones and most old images are from one mughal artist. The author does cover entire story of ramayan and includes a lot of tidbit information. It is a good buy but not as awesome as mahabharata book

Laudable introductive presentation of the great epics.
We have come a long way since we read the Ramayana and the Mahabharata in our childhood in simple prose in all of our local Vernaculas in cheap mass- paperbacks and that imprint of mental pictures remain indelible as guiding values throughout till this time. But now in this century where ancient wisdom is at loggerheads with logics of superfast technological advancement it is very pertinent that even the primary exposition of these epics must be presented in ultra modern fashion to be proper comprehension to the young tech savvy generation. And this edition under the guidance of Vivek Debroy has carried out in a satisfactory manner with illustrations selected from various schools of a large cross section of this land of India with critical notes which could ignite the wisdom of the modern minds to set up serious study of the epics , given our lack of Sanskrit language learning. The layout designing and production of the book is good, but the paper used for printing is not of the best quality for such a book deserves preserved for long time for next generations.
