Lowering cholesterol is a worthwhile goal, but maybe these capsules are not the best way to do it?
I've had high cholesterol for about 10 years now, and the doctors have been on at me to take statins for the last 8 of them! I worked for the past 17 years in the pharma industry, so am perfectly aware of the pressures exerted on doctors to persuade people to take statins, and the well documented side effects of statin taking, so I've been using "alternative" medications for a long time now, which is why I was so interested in these capsules.Nigh on £18 for 2 months supply would be a reasonable price, but according to all the reading I can find on health web sites and in the notes on competing cholesterol lowering products, the recommended amount of plant sterols for impacting cholesterol is 1.5g - 3g per day. That would need 4 of these .4 gram capsules per day (giving 1.6 grams per day) to significantly impact on cholesterol (unless my skill in "sums" has deserted me over the past 50 years!). £18 for 30 days supply is not so great a deal, given that it comes out to 60 pence per day...Other elements that I found disconcerting were the "unique" aroma (a kind of plasticky and earthy combination) emitted by the capsules, leaving a strange aftertaste, and their somewhat excessive size.For now, then, I'll be sticking with my current regime of a single 100 gram Morrisons Nourish strawberry yogurt drink each morning, which supplies 2 grams of plant sterols - well within the recommended dose to impact on cholesterol, at a price of 31 pence per day - that's much easier to swallow.All in all, these capsules have been an interesting experiment that I don't think I shall be repeating, and I can't honestly recommend the capsules to others.

This item arrived safe and well packaged.I wasn't bowled over by this supplement. As someone that trained in nutrition, specialising in the science of maintain a healthy weight and body, these little capsules feel like it is trying to encourage over consumption of nutrients that are only required in tiny amounts - if at all! It is highly debated whether any of these ingredients would actually help. Nothing has been proved outright anyway!Nobody wants to be consuming additives for the rest of their lives! In order to stay healthy and then maintain that forever, we must learn how to make healthy and sustainable choices through food rather than supplements. All of the body's daily needs can be sourced from eating a healthy balanced diet.If plant sterols is a nutrient that we really require (after a few more years of research), there are more fun ways to get it - red wine is a top choice!

These helps control cholesterol levels.Using.I had a GP check up a few years back and my cholesterol levels were just above normal so I was offered Statins. I refused these as my wife had problems with them when she had them. I looked at my diet and took natural supplements like these for two months and then went back for a blood test. My cholesterol had dropped to the lower end of normal and needed no treatment. So, I do take supplements like this and the ingredients do seem to work well with a few life style changes. Check with your GP before changing your diet or adding in any supplements. My GP was very happy with my progress and said it’s great you don’t need Statins.Overall.There are a lot of these cholesterol lowering capsules on the market. They all see to help but life style changes are just as important. I changed from butter to plant-based spreads and from full fat milk to skimmed. I also walk more and have got a few inches off my waist line. It was hard work but I feel much better. These are worth a try if you have high cholesterol but I think the life style changes are more important. You GP can advise you.

Two months supply.
I was pleased to try these 'Plant Sterols 400mg Capsules High Strength Supplement – NOT Tablets or Powder – Contributes to Normal Blood Cholesterol 120 Vegan Caps 2 Months’ Supply'. I have slightly raised cholesterol levels and my doctor keeps wanting me to take statins, which I have refused so far - I am hoping these plant sterols might help.1. You get 120 capsules in a black plastic bottle with a screw top lid. There is a protective seal under the lid.2. The dose is two capsules per day with food and water. They are a largish size at about 2.4cm x 0.9cm but they slip down easily enough for me. They do not have any smell or taste that I can discern.3. I have taken them for about three weeks now. I have not had any side effects but I cannot tell if they have helped my cholesterol levels until I go for my next blood test in September. If I stick with these until then I do hope my level is lower.4. Each capsule contains 400mg of plant sterols providing 180mg of Beta-sitosterols. The Amazon product page states that - 'most plant sterols supplements are not of this same high quality' and 'PLANT STEROLS CONTRIBUTE TO THE MAINTENANCE OF NORMAL BLOOD CHOLESTEROL LEVELS – This is actually an EU approved health claim for plant sterols, as long as your daily intake is high enough. That’s why you should take two capsules per day'.5. They contain Soy and are manufactured in the UK by equipment that also processes products containing nuts, milk, eggs and fish.6. The best before date on my bottle is 04/2023.In summary - I have high hopes that these will result in a lower cholesterol level. The price of £17.97 for a 2 month supply is a little high in my opinion but if it means I do not have to take statins, then I will pay it.
