Great series ending
There is nothing worse than seeing the words “epic conclusion” on a series that is this good. I wish it wouldn’t end.Jacob and Noor end up back at his grandfather’s house after the events at the end of the last book. I love how each of these books starts up right where the other left off. The continuation is refreshing and there is no need for the author to refresh minds. Caul has returned and has created a whole new breed of hollows that Jacob is unable to control. When Jacob and Noor reunite with Miss Peregrine and the rest of their friends in Devil’s Acre they find that Caul has released desolations over the area and show everyone how strong he has become. The main journey in the book is the trip made to a collapsed loop so that Noor can join the other light-eaters. The prophecy states that they will end Caul’s terror. There are many obstacles that they must overcome and many disappointments. The new peculiar characters throughout the book are an interesting bunch with unique talents. Many that have not yet been mentioned. This book is full of fabulous pictures that the author has once again done a brilliant job incorporating into the story. It also has humor, surprises, shocks (both sad and happy), and disappointments. It’s one big rollercoaster ride that brings the reader to the end too quickly. The final battle is quick and action packed. It really keeps the reader’s attention. The ending is the best. Miss Peregrine’s surprise for her children is heartfelt and a bit of a tearjerker. It brought everything full circle for the reader and there are no loose ends. All in all: a great series.

An exultant, exhausting, impressive 500-page finale to this ten-year serial novel.
Riggs wraps up his multi-part series with an exultant, exhausting, impressive 500-page finale. On the heels of the Harry Potter books, Riggs has crafted an updated take on serial literature. More than any of the earlier books, reading Desolations feels as if one is reading installments, as was prevalent in the 19th century English and American literature. (Not forgetting Russian literature’s Tolstoy and Dostoevsky.) Over a ten-year period we have learned about the world of peculiars, Miss Peregrine and her ymbrene sisters, and Jacob Portman and his very peculiar friends, all of whom have amazing talents. In a book of this length, it is impossible to describe all the action, but to summarize: Miss Peregrine’s evil brother Caul has come back from the near-dead and is terrorizing the entire peculiar world in an attempt to obliterate them all. And he does a smashing good job of it. My only complaints are to the publisher: a cast of characters and their abilities would be helpful in a reissue, as well as a foreward that summarizes the overall action, but in particular a more detailed summary of what was happening when book #5 ended. There are many references, but out of context, they are not helpful.

Ransom Riggs has pulled off...
Ransom Riggs has pulled off one of the most satisfying conclusions to a series, that I have read in a long while. With this review there may be slight spoilers. I'm also not going to make it to long. I know going into finales we are all nervous about the outcome. Where will characters end up? Who will survive? Who won't?Now going into this second trilogy conclusion, I have all those questions running through my head, but I also know with YA most, if not all the characters will survive. I like to see loss in my stories because it makes it more believable. Now was there loss, yes, but nothing that really hit the spot. This finale, for me, just suffered for being a tad to long. I feel like we could have cut some parts of this down just a tad and not lose the meaningful bits.Desolations provided readers with great character moments, fantastic action, a conclusion worthy of fans who have been with the series since the beginning. Ransom Riggs journey with the peculiars has finally come to an end and I for one have enjoyed my time with these characters and this world.

Best possible ending
I’m so very sorry that this story had to end. But since it had to, this made the most sense. I suppose it’s always possible, but the story could be resurrected much the same way as Doyle brought back Holmes. Should that happen, and I hope it will, I will be a faithful follower.

Worth 10 stars!
By far, Ransom Riggs' best piece of work, and none of his others were at all shabby. He is an amazing author with incredible imagination but obviously researches extensively. He'll keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat until the very end. His use of imagery is extraordinary! I was a little disappointed that the disposition of two of the characters was left in the lurch, but the book was so good that I could forgive him. I could sort of guess what happened to them, anyway; it just wasn't spelled out like it was for the other characters. I'm so sad that this is the last book in the series. This is a series for every fantasy/mystery fan out there! Well, not really "fantasy" in the usual sense' but more of "imaginary". I sincerely hope that he's working on something else.

I received the book exactly as the photos. The sleeve has slid off partially corners have been folded, scratches on the front, and there's a page that has its edge folded.Item returned, I'm hoping the replacement is in a brand new condition, since that's what I'm paying for.Edit to 5 stars: they replaced it with one in a good condition.
