Works out of the box
Received the unit and swapped in 2x8TB WD SN200 U.2 SSDs that I purchased for way less than similar M.2 solutions. Card and both drives were instantly recognized using Windows 10/11. Speeds were similar if not the same as single U.2 carrier cards. The metal accent piece seems to be a leftover design for the Mac Pro aesthetic. It looks very clean in my build. I haven't tried to check U.3 backwards compatibility on this unit, although I do have U.3 NVMe's that I can test this with. I'll update my review if there is any issues. My only complaint is the price. At $200 this is definitely a niche product.

Compatibility is a mystery
We bought 5 of these for new Mac Pros and 10 drives from Sonnet's compatibility chart only to find that they didn't work together, and Sonnet's tech support clarified that even though the SSDs were on their compatibility list, they had never been tested, nor was it their problem- because there's a footnote at the bottom of their compatibility list that effectively says, "we haven't tested any of these and don't actually know which are compatible, if any". I was shocked that their support team would actually take such a ridiculous position. The list is available on the sonnettech website under the link "Supported SSDs Compatibility Chart".The card might work OK if you happen to buy drives that it can work with, however- you're not allowed to know which drives those might be. Samsung's 983 DCT is definitely NOT compatible despite being on their compatibility list! (Luckily they did at least edit the list after my call to depict the Samsung as NOT compatible...)

Fantastic performance and design that feels at home in the 2019 Mac Pro
Amazing performance in RAID 0 with two Micron U.2 drives. This gives me 8TB and a competitive price to M.2 drives for which I would need 4, which would increase the potential failure rate. The design feels at home in the 2019 Mac Pro, with a heat spreader thing that has the same black surface material as an MPX module, and slots in perfectly. The only thing to note is it does NOT have a RAID chip on board, so you are limited to JBOD or software RAID. Disk utility can make a RAID 0 or 1 array easily, but these wont be see in Windows if you use Boot Camp.
