The media could not be loaded. This filter is exactly what I needed. After our last fish died I was ready to get rid of the fish tank. However my 5 year old had a different plan. He wanted to get some tadpolls.So filled a third of the way up with water. Unfortunately my other filter that mounted on the top couldn't reach the water. This filter was perfect in can be placed anywhere in the tank.The second reason this worked great was because as the tadpolls become frogs you need to take out water and add land for the frog. So this filter worked for 5 inches of water and in 2 inches.When it was in the deeper water it was super quiet. Only down fall is how load it is when it's in really shallow water. That was to be expected though.

Great for low level water, added extra charcoal bags for a long term filtration as recommended by another user thank you. Thanks . Keeps water extremely clean for our Tuttle. If you love the sound of water like coming from a stream you will love this pump.

My son wanted to raise tadpoles so we set up an aquarium and bought this filter. It seemed to work really well then today, I noticed it wasn't running. We only had it for 2 weeks! Took it out, cleaned everything and plugged it back in multiple times but still didn't work. I could feel something running but the water never actually filtered out the top. Big waste of money and now I'm looking for hopefully a better filter somewhere else.

TLDR: two stars off for the lackluster motors, and also it seems like one of those cheaper drop-ship type products. But it’s adequate for light use.I did a little stress test and ran this with my crab tank. The motor burned out completely after 7 weeks of constant use. So it’ll probably be good if you plan to only run it intermittently. The propeller that moves the water is fairly weak and open to the filter media. So if you plan to add additional filter media you will need to place something to keep from jamming the moving parts of this filter. I will say that in addition to the activated carbon and a filter pad, it kept the tank crystal clear and my boy Lewis(crab) enjoyed it… probably. I’ll see about getting another one and try running it with breaks. If it lasts past seven weeks I’ll update this product review or maybe try one of the many other clone-like products on Amazon’s listings.
