I install over 100 of these a year as a HVAC contractor They work as advertised, but as description says it’s not an OEM part 5-2-1 is an aftermarket product to add to the condenser to help with flickering lights when the compressor kicks on reducing the amount of time it takes for your compressor to start in some cases up to 50%. This means your air conditioner and compressor will bear the stress, strain and heat each and every time it starts. Hope this helps.

Installed the hard start kit 6 years ago. My 4 ton Rheem unit is now 16 years old and seems to work okWould it have lasted this long without the hard start kit?Don’t know, but the ac maintenance guy put a clamp on ammeter on the power cable and in rush current spike was minimal.
