i love this book.
My first copy of this I found at a Barnes and Nobles years ago. As a costumer, I was wanting something to give my creations a little bit more UMMPH! and found this. I had never cross-stitched before and had no clue on how to begin but this slim little book gave me all the information I needed to start. This is now my 3rd copy....yes, i keep losing it somehow. But i always come back to it because it has plenty of designs in it to "mix or match" into almost anything you could possibly cross-stitch. My last project took 3 different designs from the book...blended it into a 3 ft strap about 4 inches wide to use as a "guitar strap" for my pool stick case and drinking horn. Leather-backed. Ugh....bloody beautiful it was.......But I digress. This book also gives the most basic of instructions for using the designs in embroidery, needlepoint, knitting and crochet, and a wee small bit on latch-hook. I'm tempted in the last one for some of the bigger designs look to be made into rugs and such. The sheer magnitude of the project is what prevents me from actually doing it.If you are looking to give some flair to some of your projects, get this book. Plenty of stuff to not get bored with, plus, you could use whatever colours you want in your design. want hot pink and electric blue knot-work to adorn your next pillow case, you can do it. Highly recommend. :)

Not impressed
The cover shows a series of color zoomorphic designs. 5 pages of this 57 page book were zoomorphics, none in color outside of the front cover. The rest of the book is borders and backgrounds. No references to link a design to it's original source, just a notation on the back giving a list of where they could be from. If you are looking for hard to see black and white designs with lots of borders, backgrounds and spirals, then this is the book for you. If you want color designs or to link the design to it's original period source, then look elsewhere. Overall, didn't cost much so not a major loss.

Quite Useful---But Do NOT Get the Kindle Version!
This (print) copy will be my third! I love this book! But I admit that yes, the designs are challenging: In fact, I recommend recharting them yourself on graph paper, saving the eyestrain for the actual project! ;-) (It will also reduce wear and tear on the actual book, heh. Trust me on this one.)I made a little pouch for my daughter in Assisi stitch on red Aida, adding a few beads, and she went nuts! That project alone made up for the purchase price. When I realized it had gone missing, I thought at first that perhaps having the Kindle version (available on the phone surgically implanted in my left hip) would be Useful and a Good Idea. WRONG! The charts are pretty much impossible to see, and you can't print Kindle content. So much for that 4 bucks, lol! Looking forward for the real thing (hmm, no pun intended) to arrive!

Packed wall to wall with designs
This book is packed wall to wall with charted designs. I think it's worth many times the cover price. Instruction is brief but accurate and by the time you get to this book, you had better know what you are doing anyway. There are no color illustrations other than the cover but that is not an issue because any "Celtaholic" worth their salt will know where to go for inspiration: The Book of Kells, the "Lindisfarne Gospels, etc., etc., etc. Since there are no "projects" here, you can let your imagination soar and use these for and on anything your heart desires. Wonderful.

Nice assortment of images that I intend to use as a basis for embroidery or bead designs. Great value.

Excellent designs
This book has many excellent designs. As an avid cross stitcher I love to pick up books. This book has many, and I do mean many designs with over 100 to its credit. The designs are flexible enough that they can make pictures, pillows, or a special addition to a favor. One draw back, be prepared to go to a copy shop and blow up the designs, they can be very small. I give it 5 stars despite this major draw back. The quantity of designs, the quality of the designs, and the fantastic price, well they can't be matched.

Multipurpose designs
While I have heard complaints that this book is in black and white, I find that to be an advantage. I find colored charts are sometimes distracting, especially if you are trying to use the charted design for something like filet crochet. I love the variety of the designs and how one design leads to the evolution of another. Highly recommend this book for any type of celtic design work!!
