Modern pieces for cello and piano
An broad selection by Steven Isserlis of pieces for cello and piano. The cover says "Grade 4-7" but I don't know what grading system he used. The range seems to me to be a couple of grades above that. I've found it enjoyable to begin to beat a track through them, but in these restricted days I sorely miss a pianist.

No separate cello part included :-(
Although the seller was very prompt with delivery, I don't think this music book is fit for purpose. There was no separate cello part included, just a very small stave for the cello above the piano part, so I am unable to read it. Cello music needs to be easily read, as you sit so far away from the music.

Great collection of music, but purchase elsewhere
First, this is a great collection of pieces which is why I'm giving it 5 stars. But like other reviewers, I did not receive the separate cello part. The editor's note mentions suggested fingerings and bowings, which I didn't see much of in the score. I contacted the publisher and they confirmed that there should be a pull-out cello part. This would make reading the cello part much easier. Alfred Music (the USA and Canada distributor for Faber Music) was nice enough to send me the missing part, so I'm excited to get that soon. I would purchase this from Alfred Music or another reputable vendor to get the complete set of score and part.As far as the music, Here is a list of what's included:Elegy / Carl Davis *Album leaf, op. 66 / Lowell LiebermannFrogs dancing on water lilies / Olli Mustonen *Cantilena / John WoolrichHip hip bourée / Julian Jacobson *Vocalise / Mark-Anthony TurnageTango flageoletto / David Matthews *The haunted house / Steven IsserlisI haven't had the chance to go through all the pieces, but I already love the Elegy by Carl Davis and Frogs Dancing on Water Lilies by Olli Mustonen. These, and the others that I asterisked, have accompaniment recordings of just the piano part you can find on iTunes in the ABRSM Cello Exam Pieces albums. This is really nice to have if you don't have a pianist to play with. I also thought I'd mention that the last piece by Isserlis is more of a story-time piece with narration and silly sound effects for the cellist (knocking, creaking, screeches, and even a fart). It would be fun to play for children, but it's not exactly a recital piece.
