Review: LOVE this cage for my finches! - I have owned this flight cage for one month, and I have to agree with those who have given it positive reviews. I currently house five finches in it, including a tiny bronze winged-mannikin, and there is no way for them to escape, provided you assemble the cage correctly and it is not damaged. Now, as for bent wires, there will probably be a few when you unpack the pieces. The directions even warn of this. But I was easily able to put them back in place with a pair of pliers. And I am NOT a handy, tool-oriented sort of person. Nor am I particularly adept at assembling things, but I was able to put this together largely by myself. I did, however, need a second person to hold pieces in place for me at a couple of steps in the process (the instructions are correct in indicating where you will need assistance). Assembly itself took about an hour, maybe, and I ran into almost no problems. The trickiest part to assemble is the roof, but with a second person holding pieces in place, it came together. And it left no spaces wide enough for finches to escape. The only part I had a bit of trouble with was getting the wheels into the casters, as you need to hammer them into place, but my 60+-year-old mom was able to do it no problem, so maybe I am just weak :). I LOVE all of the large and small doors that allow me access to various parts of the cage. The two large doors on the front unhinge and swing out to the side, and I am able to fit the entire upper portion of my body into the cage. They both latch easily, once you get the hang of it. In addition, the large doors have small access doors on them that slide upwards (typical of the kind you would find on many bird cages). The cage also has two of these small doors on each side, one upper and one lower. No doors on the back. I have had no problem using the standard water/food feeder in these openings. The cage comes with its own food/water feeders, which attach to the horizontal wires within the cage, and can go almost anywhere you want to put them. I love to use these for food. The tray at the bottom slides out easily, and I have found that it just fits inside a large black trash bag, so that I can slide it into the bag to dump out the substrate without much mess. Above the tray, there is also a removable grate (just don't remove both at once--then there is absolutely room for finches to escape!). I have found that I can clean the grate without needing to remove it, since the bottom cage door is so large. Now for dimensions. It is true that finches prefer horizontality to verticality, so length is important. There is ample length and width for several finches (NOT 20+, though--this would mean serious overcrowding). My societies make use of the entire cage, top to bottom. My gouldians prefer to stay at the very top. I am sure it just depends on the finch. I originally housed zebras in this cage, and they also only used the top. For such a large cage, it is extremely mobile! Provided you have the space to maneuver, it is quite easy to push it around the room (if vacuuming, for example), thanks to the wheels on the bottom. Finally, this cage is STURDY. It is made of much stronger, more durable material than my previous 18 x 18 x 30 Petco flight cages. I was hesitant to buy this model because it is a bit pricey (there is, I think, another Prevue flight cage that is generally cheaper and periodically on sale), but I really like the decorative aspect of the sloping roof. And I think the finches appreciate being able to get to the very apex of their environment, which they are able to access via the manzanita perches I placed up there. Very happy with my purchase.
Review: Great conure cage - FUNCTIONALITY: I got this cage for a baby sun conure I bought from a breeder. It has a lot of great access doors (3 on each side and two in front). I closed off the extra access doors on the one side using lava perches and branch perches which worked well. It is a big cage for a baby but since these birds live 25+ years, she will grow into it. APPROPRIATENESS: This is a good cage for multiple small birds like parakeets or finches or 1-2 medium birds like conures or cockatiels. Also good for smaller parrots like desertcarts, but you are going to want something with thicker bars for a large parrot like a macaw. ASSEMBLY: It comes with three perches which are very easy to install that go full cage width. It also has 4 double feeders where you can put food in one side and water in the other. The assembly does require some analytic skills since the parts are not marked; but, if I can get it together with the "help" of my six year old, it can be done. It only took me, despite the "help", about an hour to get it together. It recommends two people for assembly, which is probably not a bad idea since you have to interlock pieces and hold them, but I managed using long twist-ties to hold the sections together. The toughest part is getting the top on because you have to have six hands (or twist ties) to hold it together, the rest is fairly simple. *************************** Update one month after moving my baby bird in: She loves this cage. I have plenty of room to hang toys and have added some additional concrete perches and some of those cloth-and-wire perches. I ended up removing the long perches that come with the cage. My bird refused to use them because they were too slippery for her little feet. I also installed one of the Prevue sun decks toward the top inside the cage for my baby to have a place to rest. I hang her kabobs of fruit and vegetables and pasta bits over that shelf with a small crock underneath to catch pieces. She seems to like the arrangement since she was getting frustrated about losing pieces between the floor bars. I was using one of the plastic dual feeders that comes with the cage but my bird didn't like them at all, probably because they were so small. She kept getting water in the food and it would get all stuck together. I picked up some locking feeder crocks and those have worked out very well. I also ended up picking up some nickle-plated grab clips at Lowe's to secure the front two doors since my little girl was trying to figure out how to get those open. I highly recommend doing that if you are putting anything larger than a parakeet in this cage. Make sure you use nickle-plated clips since most other metals are poisonous to birds. I would also say this cage should not be used for anything bigger than the size of a cockatiel or ringneck so the bird can have enough room to jump from perch to perch and get exercise. You could house two without trouble if they are appropriately bonded with each other. An desertcart or cockatoo would be able to bend the bars and you would have trouble getting one in and out of the front doors. It is definitely not appropriate for a macaw. My bird is in her cage on average about 5 hours a day and has been very happy with it. Overall, I have been very happy with Prevue brand products.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: can an african grey fit in it**
A: Although an African Grey would fit inside this cage, the spacing of the wires, the construction of the cage, and the gauge of the wire all would be inadequate for the African Grey - you need a more sturdy cage than this for that type of larger parrot. This cage is for small birds, like finches, parakeets, lovebirds, parrotlets, cockatiels. I think an African Grey could rip this cage apart if it had a mind to do so.

**Q: How much of the 53 inch heighth is cage only?**
A: Don't know where you got the 53" height from. This is the Prevue Hendryx F050 model your question is posted under and it's total height is 60" with the cage itself being 48"H x 37"W x 25" D (front to back); and that leaves 12" for the stand itself with the stand's storage shelf being about 6" above the floor. Very solid and very roomy. I purchased it at $181 and even at the current price I feel it is still a good deal for the asking price. Hope this helps.

**Q: Is the attached base for this cage included in the 60 inch high measurement? If so, what are the cage only internal measurements?**
A: 23" depth 37"across 47" high. I first bought the slightly smaller cage then upgraded to this one. I have 2 aducockatiels who find this cage big enough to constantly mate in and they now wish to lay their 3rd clutch. So they are very happy. I still have 2 8 months old in with them and is big enough for the 4. It is not the pretiest cage- but great for the birds- every inch is usable space. My birds very active- I put ladders of all kinds running top to bottom in back and love to watch them- up and down all day - run run run!

**Q: Can the bottom grate be removed so my birds can walk on the bottom plastic pan? If yes, does it leave space to outside? I do not like wire grates.**
A: Yes, it can be removed, however, I wouldn't recommend it because it leaves a gap that could lead to an injured bird. I do not like my birds to walk on grates either so I put a layer of newspaper on top of the grate. The birds have a flat surface to forage on and it makes cleaning the bottom of the cage very easy--just change the newspaper, wrapping up whatever messes the birds have made in it. I have four budgerigars and it takes me about 5 minutes to wipe down their perches and change the newspaper every day.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy to put together and good for a parrotlet
*by K***E on May 26, 2026*

I didn’t think I would like this based on the reviews but I got it anyway. It actually ended up being a bit big and overwhelming for my parrotlet at first but I will probably upgrade eventually because he doesn’t really spread his wings enough in it or fly in it. But it didn’t come damaged and it was easy to assemble and it’s easy to move around. I don’t use the skirt and it’s just fine. Overall a good pick at a good price point for a small bird.
