The cheap ones worked in the summer, but in the PNW winters, the charge controllers were not producing enough power to get my battery charged back up in the daytime. Plus the last one I tried was very inaccurate. This controller was a dramatic change. Nearly identical readings for the battery voltage compared to my multimeter, and the amps being produced matched what my clamp meter was showing. I was looking for an inexpensive controller that could use my two 100 watt panels to keep the woodshed battery charged, as well as showing the amps being produced and the amps being used. This controller fits the bill at the right price point. This controller is also programmable, as you can set the cutoff point for the load (which I wanted to protect the battery from getting drawn below 50%). Forget the cheap controllers for less than $20. This is the best PWM controller I've found. The next jump would be to an MPPT controller, but those will cost at least $50 more. Some have commented that the terminals are too small for the wires--they are a little small, but they work with the cables that come with the solar panels. I didn't try to wrap the wire around the screw, but just loosened the screw as far as I could without it coming out and poked the wire along one side of the screw and tightened it back down. Worked fine for all 6 wires. Review: Works as advertised. - I found it interesting that with the charge controller set to lithium iron phosphate, there is no PWM. Just voltage correction from solar panel voltage to 14.6 volt output. Charge control function is dependant on internal to battery BMS. ( As described in manual if I looked before I bought it) Above you can see the result of this controller and a good MPPT unit. Attached the MPPT unit just a few seconds after eco worthy,so same conditions same panel. MPPT gave 13.92v at 4.1 amps for 59 watts. The eco worthy gave 13.8 volts at 2.4 amps. For 33.1 watts. That is to be expected, nothing wrong with the eco worthy. It is a clean little unit. USB is nice. Load control is configurable and works well intuitive display. This is under 30 amps. **Q: How do you turn on the load?** A: I think all inverters have an off/on switch, assuming you are using a 120 VAC inverter as your load. Or you can put a "Battery Switch" on the inverter wire. (I'm in the desert and it gets hot, very hot, out here).
