Updated Prepworks Progressive Bread Keeper is a WINNER!
UPDATE: Yup, I still love this bread keeper. Going strong in spite of my clumsiness.I love the new updated Progressive Bread ProKeeper! I purchased several of the original version with the round ventilation "dial" and had multiple issues with it but it was the best thing out there. I have a family with a true gluten allergy. I have to bake my own bread or else pay $7 for a tiny, frozen loaf that's full of holes or has dry, flavorless, bean flavor. When my second original bread keeper was dropped, the giant hole made it an easy decision to try the new version. The updated version is leagues ahead on improvements.Pros: The ventilation is much better! The updated pull handle is a huge improvement over the tiny dial. Not only did the tiny dial not let in enough air to compensate for our humid environment, it was positively useless for gripping because it was too small to grip securely. The new handle is large enough to accommodate all four fingers of my hand with space left over. This is an advantage for better control of the box and opening and closing the two sides as they slide together to hold your loaf. The bottom has more ridges to keep my loaf elevated, which equates to better moisture control inside the box. Better moisture control = less humidity = slower to mold gluten free bread = more is eaten = less waste. The magnet that holds the hinged cutting board is a nice touch. The outside of the magnet has a slight lip which acts as a small surface to open the box from that side. It has a nice hold when closed. Not too tight, not too loose. The white, built-in cutting board is really not very usable. It's too small to hold the crumbs but this doesn't really bother me since the box would need a closing side anyway. The reason the cutting "side" is in the pros category is because it's attached and doesn't flop out, shift, fall out, or need to be kept track of when apart from the rest of the box. In my kitchen, the fewer "parts" I need to store, the better for me. The next item that was improved is the feet. They are black, more grippy, and more attached than the original version. The last thing that I love about this breadbox is that it's clear and I can easily see what's inside, how much, and whether I need to make french toast rather than sandwiches. (French toast needs slightly dryer bread to absorb the egg.)Cons: There is the likelihood that crumbs will get trapped in the bottom layers of the two box sections. Rather than shaking out the entire box together, just pull it apart and brush off the crumbs on both surfaces. This really isn't a con to me but more of a function. Definitely not a deterrent to my use. The only real con is that the ventilation holes are not very adjustable. You either get all-ventilation or no-ventilation. Without pushing the handle up into the "open" position, it hangs down and covers the holes.I would definitely recommend this bread box for anyone that makes their own bread. It has done a fantastic job of keeping my gluten free bread free of mold for longer. Yes, this is a very common situation for gluten free bread.I purchased this product on Amazon at full price, with my own money. I was not offered a discount, free item, or asked to leave this review. I waited several months before writing a review because I wanted to make sure I would be able to leave an accurate review that wasn't based on my initial impressions only. With extensive, daily use, I still love it and would recommend it to all my friends.

Neat idea. Works very well.
This works very well. Bread stays fresh longer. Box can be made smaller as bread loaf becomes smaller. Good idea.

love it
UPDATE: 5/22. no good in hotter months! went in kitchen tonight to find bread box full of mist as shown in pic and some of the bread showing whitish mold already. this is with the back ring open upwards to let airflow through! bread was made 3 days earlier and our air con is kept at 74-75 during spring-fall, humidity was 54% in house today due to mid 90 outside temp so no reason for this bread box to be full of moisture .. At this point, this box will now be turn upward and used as a container for bagged tortillas and not used for un bagged breads. do still like its style and will use again in cold months as a bread box, sad it couldn’t handle having homemade bread in it all year long.love its size, i can keep it on counter when a full baked loaf is in it OR cut loaf in half and sit it on top of each other and keep bread box small.. my bread hasn’t gone stale nor molded.. it is winter weather so don’t know how well it works in humid months yet but, giving the latch handle piece in back allows for air holes to be opened or closed, i think it will do fine.. My only issue with this box is when you pull it towards you to use cutting board part easier, it wants to pull apart from its back piece. if they made outside box piece a little bit taller and maybe added notches on top of inside box and put a small flip piece on front edge of top box that locked into a notch, it would be a perfect bread box...but, maybe not as friendly for us arthritis finger sufferers i guess.arrived well protected so no wear and tear to be seen on bread box we received.. doubt it will break but, if for some reason it did, i would buy it again. very versatile and awesome for limited counter space areas.

Bread box is not for a busy kitchen with kids...
I had high hopes for the bread box but was very disappointed when It arrived. The reason, there is no stopping mechanism to keep the two pieces from pulling apart. If you are single or a couple and know you can carefully expand or open the box then maybe it would be ok. I’m a Mom with children spanning 16 years and those children have friends in our house that also call me Mom. I can already see this box being pulled apart the first time a rushing child tries to open the box and then my dogs join the party to help them clean up.... these are what you call the prophetic visions of a mother. To make matters worse, this box fully expanded to the point of being apart won’t fit a store bought loaf of bread. I’m also guessing that given it’s design precut bread won’t stay fresh long since there is no seal at any point around the expanding section of the box. I’m not going to waste a loaf of bread finding out if I’m right, my dogs don’t need the carbs. After being a Mom for a while you kinda know what’ll become a mess on the floor. The only good things I can say are it’s pretty and looks like it would hold any size loaf of home made bread. Finally, I wish the reviews on an item were for that item. The majority of the reviews are for other food storage items that might be great. However, grouping all of the reviews together is misleading when I’m busy and quickly scanning them for a highly rated item. Amazon, your “choice” was disappointing. Returning and hoping the review system is changed.

Effectiveness
I’ve been using this item since 8/24.I like the design and appearance of it but it does not keep my homemade bread from mold. It does keep my bread moist, but, by the third day it starts showing mold.IMO, not worth the price.
