Does basic checking for breaks in cable and connection of RJ45
There seem to be a few very similar testers on the market for roughly the same price. I was able to prove to the electrician that put in my network cable that they had wired the connectors wrongly. Cheap and simple to use.

Simple but it works
Have used for about a dozen patch leads now, and has already helped spot a couple of bad crimps. Very simple to use, and has held up well. Don’t think it’s the most durable item ever made - switch a little flimsy, and I feel the way the two halves slide/snap together won’t last the test of time, but to be honest it’s been perfect for my use

LAN tester
Read a few of the reviews, decided to go with this one, cheap and does the job, ok for occasional DIY use.

Cheap and cheerful
Simple electrical CATx cable tester. 8 cores plus ground. Plastic, cheap, just like any other until you spend big bucks on a tester that runs protocols.

Useful and cheap
I bought this when I received a faulty, long Ethernet lead and decided to quickly repair it. It was easy to use and the results easy to understand. The lead was repaired and retested very quickly. Having received a free replacement lead, I now have backup

The device is Super-simple to use! 1) Install a 9V battery 2) Connect your "test" cable to the appropriate jacks on the Main UNit and "Remote" unit 3) Turn it on. The RED "POWER" LED will start blinking: FAST in the "ON" position, SLOW in the "S" position 4) Watch the GREEN LEDs on the Main unit sequence from "1" to "G", then repeat until you turn the Main unit OFF or disconnect the cable. Place the POWER switch in the "S" (Slow) position to better observe the LED sequencing. 5) The GREEN LEDs on the "Remote" unit will sequence with the Main unit's LEDs, with the "Remote" LEDs indicating which wires are connected to each other. IDEALLY, one ONE LED on each of the Main and "Remote" units will light in sequence. If NO LED on the "Remote" unit lights for a given Main unit LED, that wire IS NOT CONNECTED between the two points. READ THE INCLUDED DIRECTION SHEET to interpret other "LED 'patterns, etc.'" IMPORTANT: This tool is simply a GO/NOGO, end-to-end "continuity", cable checker (i.e., pin 1 goes to pin 1, pin 2 goes to pin 2, G goes to G, etc.) It ** IS NOT **: 1) a "volt meter" - ensure BOTH CABLE ENDS ARE ** UNPLUGGED ** (i.e., Free-Hanging), or you'll risk damaging/destroying the unit! 2) a wire "resistance" indicator - it simply indicates the presence/absence of a "conductive path" between each connector pin. Lit LEDs on BOTH units indicate a "conductive" path, UNLIT LED(s) on the "Remote" unit indicate NO "CONDUCTIVE" PATH between the two pins. 3) a "data speed" indicator - it does not indicate "data speed" through the cable (i.e., CAT3, CAT 5) 4) a "Data Logger" - it WILL NOT "store 'test results'" for later retrieval. If you want to record how the cable is "wired", WRITE DOWN the LED connection data for each wire. The "G" LEDs ** WILL NOT LIGHT ** if there's no "shield" connection between the plugs! "Shielded" (read "Expen$ive") RJ cables will have visible metal "shrouds" on the length of the RJ connectors AND they'll usually be more "rigid" than "Common, Run-Of-The-Mill" RJ cables. Treat this unit like you'd treat any other Measurement Tool. While it does have a degree of "ruggedness", it won't endure "abuse" (i.e., gnawing by a dog, repeated dropping on the floor, "play" by a toddler). UPDATE (8/20/20): I took the unit to work to test a "non-standard" ("Crossover") RJ45 patch cable. THE TESTER CORRECTLY "MAPPED" THE "NON-STANDARD" WIRING OF THE CABLE, PER A MANUAL WIRE LIST i MADE MONTHS AGO. In short, this device is The Real Deal and deserves a place on the bench of every "Wire Tech" out there!

It doesn't have any features to speak of but if all you're doing is checking cables for correct connection this is perfect. If signal strength and interference are issues you need a different tester.

This item is very simple and works very well. The only Improvement that could be made are the instructions are unclear.

Unit works very well consistently, unlike 1 other brand that was a dismal failure. This unit allowed me to determine the success of installation of 5 cables over a total length of 300 ft. Good value up to this point
