Nice clean sound, plenty of reserve power
My wife and I have a duo that performs at various venues, primarily Nursing homes and assisted living facilities but we sometimes perform some shows in covered pavilions at campgrounds. We received the Maui last night and had a chance to set it up this morning. We currently have another well known brand compact tower speaker that we have been using for about 8 years. That has worked fine for smaller venues, but once in a while at a larger venue the one we currently have just can't fill the space. So after looking at some different options on line I ordered the Maui 5 and all I can say is WOW. With no changes to our XR18 mixer settings the Maui just sounds cleaner than our older rig. We had not noticed this "muddier" sound with the old system until we tried the Maui. I had seen one review that said that highs weren't crisp as if there was foam wrapped around the top. Perhaps that reviewer had received a defective unit. My wife who has a very critical ear immediately said that the Maui was much cleaner than the old system and she was hearing instruments that were not clear with the old system. This may be due to having control over the sub-woofer level and also having treble boost control on the Maui. But it just sounds great and has plenty of reserve power from what we can see. Whenever I see "peak power" wattage ratings I take those with a salt shaker of salt. But in the quick tests we have done in our rehearsal studio it has plenty of punch, and we are not pushing it at all. For our typical venues this will be more than adequate, but for larger venues we will need to use the Maui along with our older tower system to be able to get the coverage we need. I am going to experiment with our mixer EQ with the old tower system to see if I can clean it up a bit more, and then adjust the Maui accordingly. If I can't get the old tower system to sound as clean as the Maui then I'll sell the old one and order another Maui 5 to use at larger venues. Of course we've only done some limited testing at this point but right now we are very happy with the Maui and will be using it on our next gig to see how it performs there. If there are any negatives at first look they would be: 1 - No protective bags/covers are included. Those are extra cost options. 2 - The tower seems a bit wobbly, especially if you have both of the extensions in place. The design of the older tower system locked the tower extensions in more securely. Not that the Maui arrangement will easily topple over, but there is definitely more "play" in the tower if you push on it. That said it is easier to plug in the extensions and the upper speakers on the Maui. 3 - It would be nicer if there were output(s) to allow you to daisy chain to another tower, but we can work around that by running a separate cable from our external mixer to the second tower speaker.

I got a discount but...
I bought 2 of these, "used like new," at a substantially discounted price. I played a DJ/karaoke job (right out of the box) tonight at a 200 capacity place that I have done for years. My "old school" PA sounded good there and got plenty of compliments. This was better in nearly every way. The only issues were mine and will be gone when I play the same room tomorrow. I have seen reviews that complain about 8" subs...more than enough for the intended room size. They are just as light and portable as advertised, sound great and the price is right. Win, Win, if you ask me.

High quality sound for a very reasonable price.
Small and relatively lightweight, high-quality PA system. Claims of feedback rejection are overstated in my brief experience.

Solo Acoustic Review
I bought this speaker in May of 2019. I play guitar and sing, and sometimes add a drum track to play along with. I mostly play small bars, outdoor happy hours, and BBQs. The best thing about the speaker is that it puts out a good amount of sound and spreads it evenly. I played in Asbury Park, NJ and friends told me they could hear me clearly walking over from two blocks away while people eating right in front of me could still talk without shouting. Its great when you need volume but don't want to blow anyone away. The downside is you will need a small mixer. There is no reverb and the EQ on the unit is minimal. I ran a Yamamha mixer into this and it was fine. The reason I give it three stars is because I need something that is all in one. I am moving onto the Yamaha Stagepas 1K. Its more powerful, has a built in 5 channel mixer, and the dispersion is 170 degrees as opposed to the Mauis 120 degrees. Ive ran a mixer into a powerd speaker, a loudbox mini into a powerd speaker, a mixer in the Maui, and Ive really tried every setup you can imagine. Ive found for me I need something with good dispersion, ample power, a built in mixer with eq and reverb. This unit was good for a while but lacking in those areas. Hope this helps.

Awesome Sound System. Easy To Use.
Great quality and really simple to set-up. pairs quickly with bluetooth devices and is very well built yet lightweight. Love that the column part can have 3 different heights. Buy the carry-cases for storage and transport! Used this for our wedding vows and speeches and it was great with worked microphones for a crowd of 90 people outdoors.

Item is broken
The unit I got only works for about 10 minute before it starts cutting out with the "overload protection" light blinking. It doesn't matter what inputs are plugged into it. I'm guessing that it is overheating internally. If you turn it off for a while to let it cool down, then turn it back on it works again for a few more minutes.

I want to return them
Looks good but doesn't sound good. I was tricked by all those positive reviews. The dispersion is bad, bass is good and the 2 spacers really got me. I didn't know that they were just spacers. ...
