An unexpected twist
This is the second Lisa Gray book I have read. I really enjoyed the concept that was the basis for the book. It was plausible and I really got caught up in trying to figure out the "who dunnit".

#abrknpoet reviews Bad Memory
Bad Memory by Lisa Gray is the second book in the Jessica Shaw series, but it can be read as a standalone. It follows the private investigator as she tries to prove the innocence of a woman on death row, who claims she can't remember the night she allegedly killed two teenagers. Jessica soon discovers that the small town of Barstow, California, is hiding a lot of secrets and lies, and that someone is willing to kill to keep them buried.Positives: The book is fast-paced and gripping, with short chapters that keep you turning the pages. The plot is well-crafted and full of twists and surprises. The characters are realistic and complex, especially Jessica, who is a strong and smart heroine with a troubled past. The writing style is clear and engaging, with vivid descriptions and dialogue.Negatives: The book has some graphic scenes of violence and torture that may not be for everyone. Some of the secondary characters are not very developed and seem to be there only to serve the plot. The ending is a bit rushed and leaves some loose ends unresolved.4.2 Stars

First 'Jessica Shaw' read
Nice twist, and writing style. I like the MC, Jessica Shaw, apparently there's a series I'll be checking out lol. Love when a book makes you stop reading and 'whoa' what I just read, this book did that a few times.

It's a good read
Engaging, plausible, well written and a good who-done-it. I've read a few of her other books, and it's pretty good stuff.

Interesting case(s) being presented with several possible solutions to figure out
Jessica Shaw is a fascinating and complex character and a very convincing anti-hero. My only complaint is the various characters whose points of view are narrated alternatingly. Then that was mixed with flashbacks varying from 10 to 20 years apart. A bit difficult keeping everything separate, yet together.

A terrific series
When asked to check out a double murder that happened years ago by the sister of the one who was convicted, PI Jessica Shaw isn't sure what to think. Then to be told that the execution for the convicted woman is scheduled for 10 days away, she's quite sure that there's no way she'd be able to help, but decides to look into it anyway. The more she learns about the past, the more she's convinced that the accused isn't guilty. How can she possibly prove that in less than 10 days? You'll certainly want to read this intriguing story with many unexpected twists and turns that will have you guessing until the very end.I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

A thrilling mystery with a headstrong PI
Private investigator Jessica Shaw is a drifter. While in the first book, Thin Air, she solved the mystery of own disappearance when she was a kid, in this book, she's hired to prove the convict of a double murder, Rue Hunter, innocent only a few days before the execution. She starts digging out the past and it makes more people of the sleepy town of Hundred Acres uncomfortable. The story is narrated from multiple povs and multiple timelines, which is an interesting style of narration, rather than showing the protagonist solving everything. The red herrings have been planted intelligently, misguiding the readers well and the mystery is unlocked only in the end. Yet, the resolution is smooth and doesn't feel over the top. I'll go for the 3rd book really soon.

Great who done it thriller...
Lisa Gray Bad Memory, what a great read. Believable characters, great plot, and a 'who done it' that keeps you turning the pages. After reading Lisa's 1st book Thin Air which I thought was outstanding, she has followed it up with a cracker of a read. Jessica Shaw a PI trying to save the life of a convicted murderer on death row scheduled to be executed in a week. No easy gig. I must say I can thoroughly recommend the author. Her writing reminds me of Lee Child, in the way she paints the scenery, see the locations and feel the emotions the characters are going through. And as for the main character Jessica, great to see a female lead, smart strong, she drinks smokes, has a kind of Sass most of us can identify with. She is not afraid show her vulnerability her emotional frailties, but strong enough to say 'this is me don't like it jog on'. I absolutely love the writing. After reading all the works of Angela Marsons, Patricia Gibney, Lee Child, SheryI Browne, Robert Brynzda I've just added a new Author to my list of must read everything, take a bow Lisa Gray..

Terrific Read
I enjoyed this book much more than Lisa's first novel. Jessica Shaw is a type of heroine I want to follow. Keep up the good writing, Lisa. I look forward to the next book.
