Review "Mark A. Runco's excellent book Creativity: Theories and Themes: Research, Development, and Practice may be one way to bring creativity back into relevance in psychology. This remarkable book clearly sets the stage for those involved in creativity research, for those wanting to get into this interesting and complex area, or simply for those who want an up-to-date volume on the field from one of the leading researchers in the area." --PsycCritiques (Oct 10, 2007, Vol 52, Release 41, Article 8) Read more Review A much needed reference on creativity for psychologists Read more Book Description A much needed reference on creativity for psychologists Read more From the Back Cover Each of the major theoretical perspectives (behavioral, clinical, cognitive, developmental, economic, educational, evolutionary, historical, social, organizational) on creativity is reviewed in this volume. The more important key topics and issues, including those concerning age, sex, and cultural differences, and those dealing with the mad genius and health issues, are also covered. One chapter focuses on enhancement issues, and the last chapter defines creativity and explores how creativity is related to, but distinct from, other important human capacities and behaviors, including invention, innovation, imagination, and adaptability. This is primarily a textbook. It may, however, also be useful to researchers and practitioners, given the emphasis on scholarly, scientific, and objective research and the theories that are constructed from it. All of the important scholarship on creativity is covered in this volume. Perhaps you could start from the other end?
I have not read the book, although I have read quite a deal of E Paul Torrance's material. So I imagine "Creativity" is quite comprehensive. It seems there may be the problem that afflicts most academic writers. They start with research, probably everyone else's initially, and then work down to the practical application of that research (sometimes).I came across the Kindle listing because I was looking for books that I could link my just published introduction to a new series on how anyone can teach art to anyone. I start with the simplest thing someone can do and as the series unfold reveal the underlying philosophy along with associated teaching (well coaching) practices. In other words the opposite approach to that taken by this author. If you are interested have a look at Program One: Sealed Orders (SPACE Art Education - coach)

It is easily searchable and topic are well organized
Mark Runco has compiled some of the most important western works on the topic of creativity. While being academic in nature, it is still readable for those versed on the topic of creativity. I have used in as a reference for some of my own ideas. It is easily searchable and topic are well organized.

Poorly structured but informative
Not surprisingly, a heavy book from an experienced expert is quite informative and comprehensive. It certainly serves well as a reference for creativity researchers. What bothers me is the poor structure. Within many chapters, the structure and logical relationships among paragraphs are quite unclear and can be confusing.

Runco's Creativity Book is serious reading for anyone who is interested in creativity and it's background themes. Almost like a handbook.
