It's OK, but a little misleading
I don't have fish, but I do need a non-metalic heating element. I do a lot of anodizing and electroplating so using a metallic heating element is bad news. I have a couple old aquarium heaters, one that I am using in a degreasing pot and it works great. Skipping all the scientific details, I need heaters that can go higher than ~90F. The old aquarium heaters I have go up to 120F (without modification) or so and work great in my degreaser, and I wanted to buy a few more for my electroplating tubs. Well, it seems no one makes heater like that anymore, so I figured I could modify one of these.OK, first of all, more relevant details about this product: there is a gauge on the side or front of this heater. Make no mistake, this is NOT an active thermometer. OK, again, I'm not a fish owner so I wouldn't KNOW that you need a separate thermometer, so I thought it was pretty awesome that this one has one built in. So when I first pulled it out of the box, the first thing and most natural thing to do is play with the dials. Well, the RED bar went up and down as I turned the knob... so it's not really temperature indicator, rather an indicator of what it is set at.For the most part, I would imagine this product works ok. I'm not interested in all the temperatures between room temperature and MAX, but I did let it go for a while. I stuck in a temperature probe in and water temperature did stop rising at around 93F. At least the max temperature is calibrated well.Ok, another non-fish owner fail. Most people online say 50 watts is PLENTY to maintain up to 10 gallon tanks or somewhere around there. My electroplating tubs are barely 2 gallons. It took about an hour to go from room temperature to 93F. I don't know if this is normal for fish owners, but that's about the time it takes to warm up 2 gallons of water.A little extra information regarding modifications. I did modify one of these heaters and from 93F, it took another half hour to reach 95F, so if anyone has the same requirements as me, a 50 watt heater probably won't work for you either. My old one is a 300W and reaches 115F in about 10-15 minutes! It might be higher than 115F, since I can barely keep my hands in the degreaser long enough to FISH out fallen parts.

A great heater for 3.5 gal and 10 gal Betta tanks
This is a great fish tank heater. I first used it in my 3.5 betta tank because my first heater wasn't good at keeping a consistent temperature. With the first heater (at first I had no idea that bettas needed heated water so I picked up a cheap disk heater at Petco) I noticed my betta was lethargic, her color was dull, and she had horizontal stress marks on her side. I did some research and decided to get a heater that I had better control over. I'm so glad that I got this one. Now she is zooming around and her color has gone from a soft dull blue to a very vibrant almost purple color. It keeps my tank between 72-80 degrees, doesn't over heat it and I can decide how warm the water is. My old heater would only heat the tank to about 6 degrees F above room temp which isn't always great for a betta. It was also hard to tell if it was actually working. It never got the 3.5 gallon over 65 degrees which wasn't even more than room temp and not warm enough for a betta. If you have a small tank and are thinking about one of those heaters, don't do it. Although this is a bit more money it is worth it. It's easy to tell when the heater is working because you can see the orange light come on. It's also easy to see what temperature you have selected on the front of the heater. It works by using a dial and when you turn it, a red line goes up to the selected temperature. I have since upgraded to a 10 gallon tank and this heater works well for it too. I keep the heater at a lower temperature because the tank light also heats up the water.

Suction cup don’t suck
Just don’t hold, submerged or on lid. Took them off & have it held in place wit plastic paper clips

Good, reliable heater!
I've had this heater for several months now, and I'm pleased to say that after I installed it and tweaked it over a few days to get the temperature where I wanted it, it has been completely hassle free. I own a 5 gallon bow front acrylic tank, which houses one betta fish. Easy to set up, but you do have to play with the dial a little to get it where you want it. You DO need an actual thermometer to double check the heater- be sure to put it on the other side of the tank. You can buy a good one at pet stores for $2-$3 though- you'd need one to check the water when doing water changes anyhow. I set it where I'd guess 78º and the water was hanging out around 82º, so I dialed it back until I got a consistent 80º for my little guy. Once I got it where I want it it has kept the tank at that temperature consistently. Just be sure to wipe down the heater and the suction cups every now and then when you do your water change, as things like to grow on the suction cups where it's nice and warm. Winter is coming up here, and I think my betta will be the warmest coziest one in the house. :) I'm glad I followed the advice of many other fish owners and paid extra for the good reliable heater, and I'd advise you to do the same!

Don't really know if it heats up, but the light works.
Product arrived as described and in good condition. I'm disappointed in it's heating capabilities. Doesn't seem to warm up my aquarium to temperature specified / selected. Probably would recommend for a small aquarium, 10 gallon or less, but not a bigger one. My other old submersible heated my aquarium at least, and it was the same size. The display for temp control is hard to read, when it's on, as it kind of sweats. Not one of my better purchase decisions. Partially my fault for not getting a stronger Wattage.UPDATE Nov.2018 ~ I am quite sure this doesn't work anymore...my aquarium is cold. As mentioned above, my older one still works, however today I purchased a good one made for my size of aquarium. I'm hoping it's going to last. It has a 3 year warranty, so my hopes are up. IF you're like me and want to cheap out, take my advice..just buy a good on right off the bat, I must have spent close to $60.00 anyway cheaping out on the two I bought (including this one) and I'm not any better off for it.UPDATE 2018 - I just took out my thermostat for my aquarium and realize that it is saturated with water. Even though it states that it's for submersible. I feel in the short time that I've had it it really is not a very good quality. I took one star off the rating and would not recommend this products.

pretty good
Pretty good. Shipping took awhile; arrived in 17 days from the U.S. (stuff from hong kong sometimes arrives around the same time)The thermostat seems accurate; set it at 24C and I see ~24C on my thermometer next day, set it at 26C and getting ~26C next day.It seems to take awhile to turn on and takes awhile to heat the water, turning on and off, which may not be a bad thing if its taking time to read the water temp accurately, I also like how you can visually see the thermostat setting in both C and F. The only I don't like so far is that there is no rubber on the bottom of the glass tube like most other glass heaters. It might crack if suction cups fail at it falls to bottom of tank since there is no rubber.

Excelente
