I thought the same thing! A guy was set up and Walmart selling knives during the holidays. He was doing his "snake oil" sales pitch and I was ready to stuff his "little lady" comments where the sun don't shine. I called the manager and he politely suggested that the guy take a good long break. That the seller of this pastry mat is obviously not from the US and needs some enlightenment.

Question 2

What is the temperature threshold of this product? Both freezing and heating.

Accepted Answer

It's made of "Silicone" which has a very wide temperature threshold range. You can freeze it and bake with it, and that might not have been apparent back in 2018 when you asked the question. In October 2020 we can buy lots of silicone bakeware and silicone ice cube molds.

TEMPERATURE RANGES: (copied & pasted from an internet search)
"Silicone is suitable for continuous operation at temperatures from -60°F (-50°C) to 400°F (204°C) and for intermittent use from -80°F (-62°C) to 450°F (232°C). Red iron-oxide formulations of silicone are suitable for continuous use up to 480°F (250°C)."

Can you kneed bread on it and will it stick?

You can knead bread on this.  You would need to put some flour on the mat as you would for any other surface.  The mat stays in place while you are kneading.

Does it stay put on the counter while you're using it?

Accepted Answer

Yes.  I have grouted tile counters and it not only stays in place, it flattens out the depressions between the tiles.
