can I use a 16x DVD-R on the RDR-VX500 for dubbing from a video?

As best as I can recall (it has been a number of years), DVD "speed" limitations was the main reason this deck was relegated to the old equipment heap (it is still functioning as a player by the way). Because it has been years since I stopped using mine for DVD-/+R recording, I don't recall exactly at which disc speed the deck stopped functioning. My frustration at the time was that I could no longer find the slower speed discs in any stores. Assuming that you have access to the deck - I would suggest recording something very short (no longer than a few minutes, so as not to waste much of your time), and then attempt to finalize and replay that test disc. I hope it works!

What remote control is compatible with the VX500?

Can it play and record a VHS that was recorded at a slow speed?

Transferred several vhs to dvd, worked great, but dvd will only play on this player. Have tried ot on several others. Why is that?

You may need to perform finalize operation to DVD while it's in the Sony recorder so that the DVD can be played on other players. The Panasonic DVD recorder that I have has this "finalize" operation in order that the recorded DVD can function on other DVD players. Do you have the Sony manual? It may explain the recording operations.
