Essential for carpeted floors, compared to stock rubber pads
The threaded rods of the Salamander racks thread right inside these spikes; see my photo. Simply take the rubber feet off the bottoms of the rods, and thread the spikes onto the rods by hand, to finger tightness. No additional bolts or fasteners are needed, and no tools necessary. After I put on all 4 spikes and set the rack back in place, once I put my various gear (including a 45 lbs / 20 kg turntable) back on the rack, the spikes punctured the carpet and probably went a pit into the plywood subfloor under the wall-to-wall carpet, making for a very stable and non-wobbly base.As others have remarked, $59 for the 4 spikes feels a little expensive but these are solid machined spikes. At any rate, if you are putting your Salamander rack on carpet, you need these. Also includes small quarter-sized coasters (?) if the rack is going on wood or tile floors and you don't want to gouge the floor.

High quality but expensive
Very solid and substantial spikes used for the base of my audio rack. They are a bit pricey for what is essentially a machined and painted piece of metal, but the quality is high and they perform the function well. Not sure about the effects of isolation of the components. I purchased them because I am placing my audio rack on a carpeted surface and it was worth the investment to be able to pierce through the carpet and know that the audio rack holding up my expensive components was standing on a solid base.

Great addition to my rack... but you may want to protect your floor...
These heavy little guys are a solid addition to my 5-shelf Salamander Archetype rack. They stabilize & isolate the rack sufficiently to support my Clearaudio Concept turntable on the top shelf, without any vibration-borne effects. Just be careful - they are sharp! - and you might want to protect wood floors with a brass or steel coaster / disc. My rack holds about 150 lbs of components, and the points will create deep divots in the floor if they do not set on a coaster or disc. This all being said - a great addition to a solid-performing rack.

Two of the threaded rods were damaged and several nuts ...
Two of the threaded rods were damaged and several nuts required a wrench to thread them on to the rods.

Large, Sharp and very effective
Ok these floor spike are in my opinion over priced but they are a physically pretty large, heavy and completely solid feeling. I found I had to put quarters under the spikes because I feared major floor damage which most certainly would have happened (this is not uncommon with any manufacturers floor spikes). The floor spikes make a good solid contact with the floor and did help reduce some vibrations that were effecting my stand.I would have given five stars but I think for 5 stars they shouldn't do floor damage so I gave them 4. Would I buy them again, yes but its only a subtile difference in sound quality.
