Dracula still holds up
Dracula is a classic and there is a reason why it still has an effect on our culture. This is the true Bram Stoker version and one that retains its Victorian-themed glory. This famous tale tells the story of the famous blood-sucking villain and the heroes that try to oppose him. The story is told in the first-person journal style which was popular during that time period. It was an interesting read due to the popularity in our culture and especially contrasting it with so many of the adaptations. While the Victorian era writing is fun to read aloud, there are some dialogue moments that are quite eye-rolling. The story is quite black and white with Professor Van Helsing on the side of good while Dracula is the side of evil. There are many moments when the characters go into long diatribes about goodness and at times it can be a little nauseating. What is still fascinating is that the horror elements have stood the test of time. There are plenty of creepy and downright disturbing moments like when Dracula crawls on the side of the castle or when he feeds a baby to his wives. In the end, I would highly recommend the novel for any horror or lover of literature.

I couldn’t put it down
Such a great book to read especially around Halloween. The writing could be a bit “fluffy” at times, but I very much loved this book

Still scary after all these years
Very well-done creepiness at the beginning of the book. You must suspend belief to go along with the plot. Becomes a bit more predictable towards the end.Enjoyed talking with others about the symbolic representations and uses of characters

it’s a Classic for a Reason
Wow. I never read the book before - just watched the movie years ago. It was a slow read in the beginning. The English seemed stilted (for lack of a better word); which I attributed to the time period the novel was written. It got much easier/faster to read later on. But, yes! This book is a. Classic for a reason. Timeless story. I enjoyed reading the book. It was the October choice for our book club - great seasonal read!

A great story...a page-turner
I am as tired as anyone of the "everything Vampire" trend, and almost skipped reading this. But I'm glad I took a chance. It's well-written, full of suspense, and a very good story. I was surprised to find a 19th century novel written like this -- a collection of journals, newspaper reports, and therefore various narrators -- as I have always thought that was a more modern technique. I highly recommend the book.

True Horror
I have always been a fan of vampires and gothic horror in general. I must admit, I was taken back a bit from the writing style; but when you can get past it, Dracula is a very thrilling read from start to finish! If you are a fan of horror novels, this is a must read for anyone!
