The 25 liter backpack can be used as your underseat item on a plane. It's flexible and easy to carry, and if you don't over pack it, you will be able to store it under the seats of pretty much any aircraft.

What kind of metal is on the zippers? Will they suffer corrosion damage being exposed to water?

i have no idea what kind of metal was used. but I assume that if it rusted, someone would have written about it by now. If you use it by salt water I recommend washing it when you are done.
