🎶 Distort, Define, Dominate!
The NUX Recto Distortion Guitar Effect Pedal delivers a powerful heavy distortion sound with a tight bass response, featuring a pure analog circuit that emulates the iconic American pre-amp high gain tone of the 90s. With an extra gain boost for higher frequencies, passive EQ controls, and true-bypass hardware switching, this pedal is designed for guitarists seeking to elevate their sound to new heights.

Looks that could kill, if the noise and bass don’t do it first
You ever see a pedal, and just fall in love with the design? Maybe I’m in the minority, but this pedal is just beautiful to me. The mirrored knobs, flat black paint, and the graphic in the photo are just divine to my eyes.Upon receiving the pedal however, the mysticism was interrupted. There was an apparent space in the “Recto” graphic, causing it to look more like “Rec To,” which is certainly not as cool. Not sure if this is some trademark thing, but it threw off the design to me. I suppose the unit is built well enough, though there was definitely something rattling in the case which was slightly alarming. But certainly it can redeem itself with the sound right? Well.. not so much. This thing has way more bass on tap than I can imagine anyone EVER needing. So much that the bass knob at 0 was still maybe a tad too much for my taste. A ridiculous amount of bass here, and not at all in a good way.The gain/distortion offered here is nothing particularly amazing either unfortunately. I was expecting some early 2000’s metal tones but I think the mark was missed. I was expecting some tight response, but this sound is quite “loose” sounding and does mot clean up super well with a boost. After some experimentation with other pedals, I did not find a way to tighten the bass response to my liking without adding to the insane levels of hiss and noise.Truly the real issue here is the wall of noise that accompanies this pedal when engaged. Not sure if my unit was defective or what, but even on a battery the noise floor is intense and no better on an isolated power supply. Even my most powerful noise gate could not kill it all.All in all there were too many issues to justify my purchase, so this guy was returned. If it were not for the insane noise issue, I might have kept this pedal for more experimentation. There are good sounds in this box no doubt, but I will not be wading through an ocean of noise to find them.I hope other players experiences are better. I was quite excited for this to arrive, but I was very disappointed in the level of product that actually showed up. I suppose I’m not above giving other Nux products a shot, but my first experience in the Recto distortion was a poor one.

SUPERB VALUE!
I purchased this because of the price and if it was horrible I'd return it. This pedal sounds really good! I own over 6 guitars ranging in price from $400 to $2500 and a few tube amps as well a solid state. This pedal does really good being pushed by a mini Tumnus. Although it's viewed as a pedal meant primarily for metal, I have this little beauty dialed in with the Tumnus, using my Gibson SG Standard with 50s style wiring through a 59 Seymour Duncan neck pickup, volume around 7-8, tone dialed all the way back = really sick woman tone just like Slowhand originally did with his SG, not the Les Paul. Speaking of which, my 2016 Les Paul Standard sounds great as well. The pedal IS on the dark side of tonality, but then, so is the real amp this pedal is modeled after (MB Dual Rec). The knobs are a little wobbly on the posts and spin very freely with little resistance. In other words, not a quality feel like more expensive pedals. I've played MANY Mesa Boogie amps. Does this pedal achieve those sounds? It does a decent job also considering the price. I used my 40 watt Blackstar Club 40 volume at 50-60% and this pedal has the 80s & 90s metal tones you're after. Remember, this pedal is dark sounding, hence the use of a treble boost. Would I recommend? ABSOLUTELY. Value per dollar is amazing. Gig worthy? Depends. If it's a rough crowd, probably not. If you dial it in for some mellow blues gigs, you should be good. As for longevity of the pedal? I guess I'll find out.Now stop reading this and go buy one!

Very good for price
Not exactly heavy metal but good for hard rock tones, getting the eq dialed in can be a little tricky but if you work with it it's pretty good. Much better than the distortion Chanel on my randall rg 35 wich I run the pedal through. The clean on the randall is fantastic think deluxe reverb. For hard rock tones I turn treble bass and gain to straight up 12 o clock and it sounds good not muddy and smooth distortion. And by turning the bass and gain almost all the way down and boosting the treble up to about 3 o clock with a strat neck pickup gives a great sounding SRV tone. Overall I am happy with purchase

Pretty good distortion.
Nice sounding distortion. Good tone.I don't think its completely Mesa Boogie Dual Rec in a box but it's definitely a good MESA type sound.More like a Mesa Mark sound. My unit had volume knob issues. It went from zero to loud with no in between no matter where the knob was set.So I sent it back. Also THIS IS THE SAME AS THE TWINOTE BOOGIE distortion pedal 👍

Not a mesa, but not bad
Solid enclosure, knobs and jacks are sturdy, footswitch clicked as should. There are several different rebranding of this mesa in a box style pedals going around -this one sounds fine for the price. Has some noise when cranked. Would recommend for those looking to explore distortion on a limited budget.

Recto at your feet!
There are really no real reviews or demos on this little gem online but from the little I saw, I figured why not take the chance. It's only $50 right and you can always return it. It arrived on time and I was excited to try it out. I plugged it in the input of my Egnater with all knobs set straight up except volume, engaged it and just WOW!It's really as close as you can get to a recto in a box. I don't even have to adjust anything on the pedal and it's basically the sound I hear in my head. It is a little bass heavy, but then again so are the Recto's. After playing for a good amount of time I decided to give it the real test and plug it into my Supro Thunderbolt.. and it got even better. If you are looking for that mesa sound and can't stomach forking out $1200-2000 on a real one, give this a shot. I don't believe you will be disappointed at all. Overall best money I have spent on a distortion pedal in 25+ years of playing.

Killer!
This pedal is great.... I run it into a headrush frfr 8inch and it sounds very much like a mesa boogie.
