Great graduation gift
I bought one copy for my grandson who is a college student and has mentioned that he is realizing how little he understands about personal finance topics. Then bought a second copy for a niece grauating from high school. I think the book is a good introduction for young adults.

Financial Basics is a must read for the high school student, the young adult soon to head off to college, and for their parents and grandparents. Knox does an excellent job raising financial awareness in young adults so that they understand how credit cards, loans, and checking accounts work, and so that they can create realistic budgets, and build positive credit histories to avoid getting into debt. To make her points, Knox presents engaging and real-life examples of young adults who have worked up huge debts and who struggled or are still struggling to pay them off. She also presents positive scenarios of those who understand financial basics and are able to move forward without debt. As a parent of a young adult soon to head off to college, I realized that, not only do I have a lot to teach my son, but that I, too, had a lot to learn before doing so. Thank you for your superb presentation.

This is the book I needed when I was a student
This is the book I needed when I was a student. Susan Knox makes financial management easy and accessible for the inexperienced. Her writing is clear and informative. Chapter by chapter, she sets the stage for stable future college days—how to prepare to go to college and financial quality of life while in school. She offers both students and parents big sweeping spending ideas about the pitfalls of keeping up with other rich students as well as making decisions about specific modern-day luxuries such as credit cards and car purchases. Knox’s "Financial Basics"—the wisdom she shares in this book—is the perfect gift to give a parent or grandparent whose children are embarking on the most important educational journey of their lives.

When the first edition came out, I bought copies for my children and nieces and nephews. As soon as the second edition came out, I bought it again to give to the younger generation. First, I sneaked a look. And Knox has done it again. She has written a wise book. An essential book. I wish every young person would read this clear presentation of how to take care of oneself financially. The new edition lives in 2017. (Things have changed since the first edition!) The new edition keeps pace. Knox includes more about finding information through the web, for example. If all young persons could read this before launching into their own lives, we would see their greater independence in every regard.

Friendly, engaging, clear, chock-full of information
Now that I have read the second edition of Susan Knox's Financial Basics, I cannot imagine how anyone about to enter college or their parent or grandparent can do without it. It is friendly, engaging, and chock full of information and wise and up-to-date guidance. It's an essential resource that will help young men and women get off to a much happier and more satisfying life than they would if they had to recover from any number of common financial errors. Did I say that I highly recommend this book? If I could I would purchase 1,000 copies and distribute them immediately. This is one of those books that a person cannot afford NOT to buy. Or so it seems to me.

This is the book I wish I'd had forty years ago instead of learning the hard way.
Ms. Knox has done a stellar job of breaking down money and its management into a less confusing and intimidating subject. While other financial guidebooks provide suggestions, Knox provides suggestions and the logic behind them. This is the book I wish were available when I was a student. What a perfect gift for high schooler and college student alike.

Good basic intro to finances for students
This book is good for kids that are just starting to manage money, or make money, or are about to move into student housing/residence. Anyone that has already lived on their own for a year, or who has worked for a few years and managed a few bills will find this too basic.
