So happy this thing exists.
Refer to what Orangevale huskies said. I have the exact same situation. Bought insignia brand when we bought the new tv. Thankfully we had a great salesperson who hooked us up with the converter and the cable. After just a few months, my husband was having to plug and unplug one of the connectors to get sound. I hopped on Amazon and ordered a backup. Tonight the original wouldn’t work at all so I whipped out the new one and had sound in seconds. My husband was astounded! I hadn’t told him I made the Amazon purchase. Needless to say, I’m ordering another one right now.

Well made, works great, but...
Don't buy this for your PS4 (see edit below for workaround). The DAC works fine, but the PS4 won't feed it a two-channel audio signal for many (MANY) games, which means you'll lose any game audio that lives on the center channel if you just try to plug this box directly into your PS4.Not a problem with this product, just a problem with the PS4 and any two-channel DAC.EDIT: If your TV supports optical audio out, you may be able to cheat by routing PS4 audio to the TV using HDMI, then running optical audio out to the DAC from the TV. If your TV will mix the multi-channel audio from the HDMI connection down to stereo, and then output it to the DAC, you'll get the outcome you were hoping for.

Works as advertised!
This is my 2nd Ingsignia Optical Digital to Analog Converter. I have a set of Sennheiser wireless headphones that have analog plugs for the connection to the TV. I just upgraded my TV to a larger, newer version, and it didn't come with the analog ports that I had on the old set! I connected this converter into the TV's optical port, and then plugged in the analog plugs from the headphone base, and it works perfect! This was way more cost effective than purchasing new headphones! One note, if you do this set up, you WILL need an Optical Cord for the connection between the Converter and the TV.

Works without issue but limited volume
Purchased it so i can watch tv late night without disturbing others using my gamer head set. My tv only has optical output for sound. Purchased this with a y cord 2 rca to 3.5 female. Also bought optical cable. Like 5 each on amazon. The issue i have with this is that its volume ability is limited. I bought this one cause i didnt buy something crappy from china or japan thatll fail. Read other brand reviews. Insignia is a known brand over other stuff i see here. It would be the best if digital sound to analog can be higher

yeah man I can Listen threw my speakers again Yahooooo! I have this old receiver and I bought this New TV and I was having a hard time connecting my speaker wires so I can listen to my surround sound and this gadget works so if you have an old receiver this is what you need. Plus you going to need TOSLINK Braided Fiber Optic JIS F05 Male to Male Audio Cable (6 Feet) and your all set!

Perfect solution to modern Blu-ray players that lack onboard DACs and RCA outputs
One of the best bang-for-buck audio items I’ve purchased. I had a peculiar problem. I still love to listen to CDs and my Sony Blu-ray player does not have an analog RCA stereo out! Guess they’re optional like headphone jacks on iPhones. But I digress. I have a vintage 80’s Technics integrated amp that still works like a charm. But obviously no digital input. After research I found this item which would seem to solve this issue and it absolutely works like a charm. I had an old digital coax cable I used to use with a CD recorder and luckily the Sony Blu-ray has a digital coax output. Connected it right to the Insignia, then I used some higher quality RCAs to connect to the cd input of the Technics. Works like a charm. Sounds pretty darn good for a $30 piece of gear. I can’t detect any noticeable artifacts from the device. This was just the solution I needed.System:Sony Blu-ray VB201UXLO ER-6 Digital CableTechnics SU-V76 Class A Integrated AmplifierKimber Kable 4VS Speaker CablesMirage M-290is Speakers
