Stress arise in mind and your body react.
Book binding is good, the paper used is recycled, the printing is good, and the fonts are big. The paperback is weak, and this book is not a photocopy, but at such a price, getting a foreign author is a privilege; in America price will be 1500+INR. I want to suggest the publisher make a strong book cover; otherwise, it looks cheap from out outside first impression, inside the book is very good. If you are struggling with your health. No doctor tells you this; all are pharma agents, even ayurvedic folks, and Indians do not know what to eat, only lentils of peagon pea, rice, wheat bread, and a lot of green grass. We don't know the protein source, omega-3, or vitamin B12 source. I recommend this book to Indian teens, very ambitious but lacking in basic health, self-care, and self-love. When you encounter chronic diseases, even your parents will say See this or that boy, they never get sick, and you are always sick, so and so. They don't know basic manners, how to talk to children, or kids. Parents beat children, which later becomes childhood trauma that no medicine can cure. I don't know if I will survive or not, but if I got this book in 2020 or 2021. I would have treated myself. May god give me strength. Don't be a nice guy or girl for parents; they are horrible, ectoparasites. Don't try to act like lord Ram or Shravan Kumar. Indian parents are no more parents; they have now turned into capitalists who invest only. Take a full 8-9 hours of sleep, don't listen to any baba.

The Crux
• More than hundred trillion microbes live in our gut. • They make our gut microbiome. • The quality of our microbiome depends on various factors like our mothers microbiome, the food we eat, the environment we live in and our state of mind. • Our state of mind plays a very very important role in determining our gut health. The emotions in our brain play out in the theater of our gut. Fear and sudden stress leads to diarrhoea many a times ! • And, the gut health also has a significant impact on our moods, emotions and our mental health. Why is autism and parkinsons sky rocketing these days ? By eating organic, by eating 80% plant based food and less animal meat, by avoiding all refined foods including white sugar and white salt, by saying NO to all processed food, by avoiding anti biotics as much as possible and by depending on healing properties of plants, by maintaining a healthy lifestyle (that includes daily exercise), by fasting once a month, and by avoiding stress through the practice of mindful meditation, we can ensure a great gut health as well as emotional wellness. Hippocrates said ALL DISEASES START IN THE GUT. And, research now shows (the indian and Buddhist monks said it a thousand years ago) the mind plays a huge role in affecting the gut. Fear, anger, jealousy, hatred and many other negative emotions stored in our brain for a long time manifest as diseases later. Oblivious to the root cause, we keep treating the organ and suffer endlessly. Add life to your years and years to your life. Live well ! Thank you Dr.Mayer, brilliant work indeed : )

There is sure no shortage of trade books on the microbiome and the list of books is bound to proliferate given the popularity of the topic. This book separates itself from the pack in a number of ways. First, Dr Mayer is one of the select group of scientists worldwide whose work has helped fuel research into what we know about the microbiome and its importance to our health. While other scientists saw painful medical disorders like irritable bowel syndrome as a “psychiatric disorder” Dr Mayer was conducting research showing that the brain has a far more powerful and complex role in tipping the balance between health and illness than just governing our mental wellbeing. Because he knows what he is talking about, the reader can feel confident that the material is accurate, trust worthy, and backed by evidence tested in rigorous laboratory settings. This is no small feat among the growing number of books chock full of half-truths, exaggerations, and outright inaccuracies that make it hard for the reader to separate fact from fiction. Second, Dr Mayer emphasizes the importance not only of how our mood, behaviors like our activity level and what we eat and drink, and mindset can impact the collection of microbes that colonize the human body but how our microbiome can in turn impact the brain. There is no other book available that covers so much terrain with such expertise and precision. Third, the book is an easy read, written in such an engaging and non-technical manner that even the person whose last science book was in 10th grade bio class will find this book a pleasure to read, making it far and away the best microbiome book out there for general audience. Finally, as a gifted clinician, Dr Mayer concludes the book with some “nuts and bolts” strategies for how to make simple lifestyle changes that put in practice what microbiome research tells us about how to optimize our health. A+: Recommend wholeheartedly -- Dr Jeffrey Lackner, Behavioral Medicine Clinic, University at Buffalo, SUNY

Fascinating, enlightening read and a window into the yet to be fully understood world of microbes and their role and impact on human health and well-being. Published in 2016, yet it's narrative still resonates today with ongoing research affirming much of what Emeran Mayer posits.
