Great backup for emergencies!
You know how those crank chargers you buy usually never actually charge anything like they're supposed to? Well, this one does. I find that it charges my old iPhone 6 more smoothly than my new Samsung Galaxy 8, but it works well enough for both devices and any inconsistencies in pedaling resistance when charging the Samsung were smoothed out by plugging it into a surge protector (for some reason). Was able to charge both devices no problem at about the same speed you'd expect from a wall charger. The device is simple to put together and easy to use. I have mine mounted to a cheap 2' x 2' piece of plywood to keep it stable, and could probably pedal away for at least a half hour with my feet without breaking much of a sweat. A solar setup would be less work, of course, but I live in a part of the country that experiences power outages in winter due to ice storms and blizzards...when there's usually no sun available! So, yeah, this will be a fantastic emergency backup to have should we ever lose power again. The few negative reviews I saw seemed to be coming from people expecting it to do more than it was ever intended to do. FYI, I havent tried to charge a 12 volt battery with this yet, but I will update my review when I do. (Waiting for payday to buy that and an inverter. Lol.) P.S. The company owner responds to customer inquiries really quickly, which is awesome. It's a bit pricey, I think, but it's made in the U.S., the customer service is great, and it actually works. It's a long-term investment, and the peace of mind is worth the price IMO.

Make sure you have some sandpaper handy
The machining on the screws for this generator is very poor. Sharp edges poke out of the heads of the screws which can cause injury due to their close proximity to your feet while pedaling (see attached). The left pedal also has a tendency to work itself loose during usage. I've requested a replacement from the supplier and will update my review based on their response.

Meh
It charges well and the construction feels sturdy but it slides around constantly (Which i expected). My main problem is the right pedal unscrews itself after several dozen rotations. Ive tried tightening and over tightening it but it always unscrews.Very disappointed and frustrated about this

An advancement in Generator design
I would rate this product five stars because Ken Torino, the designer has shown an incrediblewillingness to work with me, a very demanding customer. I went with four stars because there isroom for improvement. The product performs as advertised and generated enough power to keep yourcell phones and tablets charged. The design is innovative, and the portability excellent. My goal was to use it as an exercise bikeand the stress of the weight and force pedalling exerts caused the Powerbox to break. This is not the fault of the Powerbox per se, it doesthe job. The housing is plastic and not intended to be stepped on, or abused like a bicycle. Let's face it bikes are made of steel. The product is terrific for Apple Products and chargers. My Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Samsung Note 10.1 with two amp chargerstaxed the Powebox to the limit, mainly because Samsung has maxed out fast charging and as long as I used the Powerbox as a handpedal unit it was reliable. Using the Powerbox in that fashion provides a great upper body workout. I have two Powerboxes and I am satisfied. My only complaint that may not be possible to correct is the unit is noisy and sounds like an electric drill. In a hurricane or blackout, who cares, right. If you use this every day for charging your phones in the house or an apartment expect some negative feedback from those not pedalling. It is annoying. Ken has indicated he is working on a more robust higher power design, and I expect that will beanother breakthrough in Generator design. If you ar an enthusiastic Prepper or just an interested engineering type who cares about power generation and emergency services, I wouldn't wait, I'd buy a Powerbox. If you have a problem K-Tor has the best customer service I have ever dealt with.

NO THANKS!!
I'm a father working on, emergency services for my family, this item didn't begin to work. Today the power went out in our country. Out of the box, $200, nothing....then, you want us to buy external batteries to charge? 1st, you say you can use your hands??? Do it, and lets watch! 2nd, then you want us to build a "mounting box"? So, then,"charge up" a lead acid battery? Then you show your "work table display" with NOTHING that works with this unit! I specifically bought this to charge a Laptop. So another of your supporting videos says about, "2 hours to charge a phone"? Ok, WE tried to charge a Motorola Cell phone for 25 minutes and got nothing. Actually I tried charging everything. our Acer tablet lite up but never charged 1 percent. I also tried a volt meter and did see it jump a couples of times. 3rd, I wouldn't suggest this item for any situation, especially emergencies. I'll try to use the pedals one day on my children bicycles. Rev. Pearce

Pedal resistance not constant. Impossible to pedal at a constant rate.
The unit had a problem where the resistance is not constant. Every three times around, the pedal force increases dramatically, then let up again for three more turns. Made it impossible to pedal at a constant pace.(EDIT: 5 stars now, turns out I had plugged too much into it. The device adjusts the resistance automatically for the power draw, and I was over-loading it. Works great now. The way I was using it was actually the problem. Great response from the company, sorted me out in no time.

Product is a life savor!
This product is truly a life saver! I was in a Florida during hurricane Irma and we lost power, luckily I had purchased one of these pedal generators and I was able to keep my phone charged when I needed to use it to update my family that I was safe! Money well spent!
