BP95-T - Threaded (SolarLite Film) Solar Filter for Camera

Great filter but no case for it?
I bought this in preparation for the solar eclipse happening this summer as a method for getting a good sun shot with my 200-500mm lens. My initial Feel for this filter was that it was packed well enough for shipping, but no real case for carrying it around especially since this is a film filter and not more resistant plastic or glass. For that I dock a star especially given the cost of the filter, how hard/expensive would it be to include an inexpensive plastic protective case? It's an easy and cheap enough problem to fix but still...Anyhow, I put this on my 200-500 lens to try it out for just the sun proper, and all I can say is...wow! 1st shot was though the clouds at 200mm, slightly cropped. 2nd shot was a 100% crop on a clear day at 500mm. 3rd shot is the full image at 500mm (all shots taken on a full frame camera). Needless to say, I'm highly, highly impressed with the performance. As a solar filter it works and works very, giving a very pleasing red/orange/yellow tone to the sun. For that reason alone I'd recommend it. Given the fact that it is a fragile film and doesn't come with a protective case, you will want to handle it very carefully and be incredibly careful of how you stow it away.*EDIT*For the eclipse, this worked excellent. I as-yet don't have any photos developed of the partial phases (will update when that's done), but was well worth it--enough that it bumps up a star for the clarity of the sunspots. Will highly recommend for anyone who is looking for a 95mm filter for the 2024, 2044, 2045 elcipse, the 2019 transit of mercury, or when the sunspot cycle goes high again!

Worked well but may be too orange for some
The filter works fine for the sun, but it may be too orange. I hope to use it in the eclipse, and I'm concerned it may make too orange/red of an image

A great filter for viewing the sun when using a lens with a 95mm diameter
I bought this filter to photograph the recent Mercury transit in which Mercury transited across the sun. It is perfect for that need. This 95mm filter screws onto any lens with a 95mm filter size. I suppose it can be used with a 95mm adapter ring on smaller-diameter lenses. It passes 1/100,000 of the light and is ideal for photographing the sun.Packaging is less than ideal. It comes in a plastic bag inside a cardboard mailer. The filter arrived fine although I would prefer a plastic case for more-secure long-term storage.Application note: You must never look directly at the sun. This applies even more so to looking at the sun through your camera viewfinder (if it has a direct viewfinder) that intensifies the light. This causes permanent eye damage. It is most safe to view the image on the camera's LCD screen. That way you can avoid looking in the direction of the sun by looking at the LCD from an angle.During the Mercury transit there was a sun spot much larger than Mercury on the surface of the sun. So it may be interesting to photograph the sun even on 'regular' days.If this review was useful please let me know by voting for it.

Comes with no case to protect it.
It worked well for a solar eclipse. I was pleased with the results, but this filter comes with no protective case, which resulted in the filter getting destroyed inadvertently, which was unnecessary when all it needed was a case to ensure its protection. Therefore, despite the great results, I will still need to replace it with a better option.

Great results
Havent had the chance to use it fully yet, but the first results i got are to my liking. Preparing for the July eclipse in Chile and this will be very helpful to document the event.

Delicate but works - NOT Glass
Ensure you are careful and keep this in its case and maybe even buy another sturdier case for it. It is a flimsy film in a screw on housing. I had just assumed it would be glass like other filters I've owned for decades.

Really good quality, bang for your buck
Really good quality, bang for your buck!!! Packaging was good and I am confident that my camera's sensor will not get damage when I tak my sun pictures.

This is very disappointing Got the box and there is no filter in it. Was hoping to use it this weekend to practice.
