First, yes, the pencil sharpener itself works as expected. But the design is not user friendly. To empty the shavings, you have to pull the front panel (the see through piece) off. It does not come off easily, but when it does the shavings fall out. Then, the shavings that are behind the sharpener, get lodged back there so you have to dig them out with a knife or something. I am considering buying a different one because this one is just too annoying to use.

I put two AA batteries in it and fired it up. Broke on the first pencil. The lead got caught in the powerless sharpener, now it runs at snail speed. I'd be better off sharpening my pencil on a tennis ball. It end up costing the same to return it so it will be in my recycling on Monday morning. Don't do it.

I purchased Faber Castell pencils for this product. Surprisingly it worked fantastic on the pencils. I was a little weary of the purchase because it is really not expensive so I was not sure it would work on pencils for artists....It works great!!! Buy with confidence!

The sharpener itself works well. Be careful when emptying the shavings though. I spilled them everywhere the first time because the drawer is difficult to open. Also, the packaging the sharpener was in looked so old, like it had been sitting on a shelf somewhere for years. I was worried I was getting an old broken product but it worked fine.

This thing is a piece of junk. I knew the second I took it out of the box it wasn't worth more than $3. The batteries were difficult to get in. I put one pencil in and it didn't sharpen it. It didn't sound like the motor was even turning so I checked the batteries and they were hot. The motor burnt out. Returning this now.

Good little battery operated pencil sharpener. Lacks the torque of an electric so don't expect miracles. The instructions say to use it sitting on a surface but it worked better for me holding it in one hand, pencil in the other. Requires frequent emptying due to it's diminutive size.

Works great and provides a nice sharp point on your pencil and very quickly without grinding your pencils way down. I recommend this one.

Good pencil sharpener! Use it for color pencils.
