Amazing improvement
I was at the point of assuming that my son would never have neat writing, but the transformation was amazing. He now writes nice and neat!

Black box...
I really wish there were previews for this book. A lot of it I like: the contracts, the rewards, the layouts. A lot I don't: the "I am obiedient", "my parents/teachers are wise" kind of phrases they use later in the book feels like preachy fundie homeschool brainwash, and the coloring pictures were a weird inclusion. I just wanted my kid to work on handwriting at home, not read a morality play.Lastly, parents are supposed to grade their kids' effort and progress. This is all well and good but if you're going to include this, please add some sort of rubric by which *to* gauge their progress. Otherwise, you end up with a subjective grade being given by a parent that doesn't know what to look for- what's the point in that?3 stars because it did what I set out for it to do. Please make what parents are getting more transparent.

This is helping my son be positive about writing!
This little workbook has made a HUGE difference in my 2nd grade son's attitude towards writing. I figured the other reviewers were exaggerating and it wouldn't help us that much, but I needed to do SOMETHING so homework and school work wasn't so painful for everyone. He just completed section 2 of the 3 in the book. Writing HW has been like pulling teeth until he started working on this. He would take 1 hour to read a chapter in a book and write 3 sentences, with our help. He was not displaying work at his actual level of capability. Now he hurries through the HW on his own in 10 minutes to get to the work book.He loves to choose the reward he earns at the end of each section. He chose a movie night at home, and I made a fun dinner to go with it. I like the positive words and sentences, they sounded somewhat corny and overdone to me at first, but I do think they help my child keep a positive mindset.I just ordered the 2nd level book, and after that he asked for the cursive one too.My 7 year old son is very creative and an advanced reader, writing is our biggest stumbling block. This would be too simple for most older children.

Some pictures and phrases are a little off...
I purchased this book for my son to use this summer to improve his penmanship. This book starts with single letter practice, then single word practice, finishing with short sentences. It will probably work well for developing penmanship. The sentences are supposed to be positive and self-esteem building, but some of the sentences strike me as a little too much like programming your child to be obedient by drilling it into them, rather than helping your child develop their own moral compass. The following sentences feel "off" to me and may give others pause:"I am a very loyal child." (You demand loyalty of your children? Are parents rulers?)"I am obedient at home." (This is not a positive phrase. How about: I try my best to make good choices.)"I like to get perfect grades at school." (Only perfection is good enough? How about: I like to do my best at school.)Also, one of the coloring pages is a cartoon of an "Indian Chief." This in and off itself seem innocuous, but considering other pages are woodland creatures, gingerbread houses, and sea creatures, with one other human picture being a parent in the car with 3 screaming kids ordering fast food (no, seriously!), it sends a subtle message that the "Indian Chief" cartoon falls in the same category. I would expect better from people developing educational materials.

Well thought out writing practice book
This is a well thought out writing practice book with plenty of room to practice the letters and to practice writing words. As an added bonus, it has coloring pages spaced throughout to act as rewards after they finish tracing and writing. I will definitely recommend for anyone that needs writing practice for better handwriting.

Positive, easy to use
I’ve been through about 5 handwriting books and this is the best. Very clear letters to trace and start off. Positive, first person “I” sentences and words to practice so not a lot of complaining about “boring sentences.” The grey shading to help recognize sizing for lowercase letters is very helpful. There is space to give the practice a grade. When we started off I graded writing but after time I let him tell me what grade he earned so he could see what good writing looked like.ONlY CONS- I wish this author had a part 2 for more of just sentence practice minus the letters. We do one page per day. Some pages are printed two sided while some have a printing practice and a coloring sheet one the back side- which makes it easier to do one a day.

Motivating and well laid out
Really nice book. It starts out with single letters (upper and lower case) and moves to phrases and sentences by letter. I like how it has sections with goals and a “prize”/special experience that you and your child agree to at the outset of the section. My son has done well with it! (He is in 2nd grade).

Wonderful
Its a simple workbook but it is so positive, my 8 year old who's been having trouble with his handwriting loves it. He is almost finished with book one, I already bought level 2. The sparkling positive sentences are a treat, I really recommend it.

Dirty pages
This book was dirty and had pages stuck together with something pink and sticky. I thought I bought a new book.
