UPDATED REVIEW.
I really want to love this pen. I'd even settle for liking this pen, but I don't.The ink flow is unpredictable, sometimes flowing fast, sometimes just skipping and not flowing at all (while held at same angle). Unpredictable ink flow means uncontrollable output. And that is not useful. The nib does not flow smoothly across the paper but feels rough and scratchy. I know, it's a cheap pen, but is simply not worth owning. With that said, it differs appear to be solidly built.I'm returning it.Oh, and you have to pay shipping back... and no refund until they receive it...I recommend you buy something sold in USA.UPDATE:Seller contacted me after my review (5 stars for the seller! ) with suggestions for improving the ink flow and eliminating the skipping. The suggestions worked! I'm happy with my pen and no longer returning it.Changed myrt rating from 2 stars to 5 stars.

Excellent substitute for the Pilot Custom 823!
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. This is an incredible clone of the Pilot Custom 823, a pen with an MSRP of $288 on Goulet Pens and a favorite of the famous author Neil Gaiman for its ergonomic large pen body and high capacity vacuum-filling mechanism. And it in no way disappoints. If anything, having handled both this one and the real thing, I almost prefer the clone. Perhaps it's because it's more affordable and thus more easily replaceable, but it feels quite solid and I am much more comfortable about tossing it in a pen pouch or pocket as an EDC. The barrel is nicely polished, giving the impression of a much higher end pen.As for functionality, its steel nib looks golden and performs excellently, with a slight bit of feedback that is remarkably similar to the Custom 823 I tried before. Please see the video for a writing sample. The vacuum filling mechanism likewise seems to work just as well as the real thing, filling more than halfway with a single pump (see photos). All in all, I am extremely pleased with this purchase, and it has already replaced the Custom 823 in my pen collection.

I would have done better buying a fountain pen at DAISO
So, so disappointed. There were enough positive reviews on this that I took a leap of faith. I wanted an inexpensive but good quality fountain pen that I could take with me, without worrying about leakage or drying. When the pen arrived the box it was in was squashed; it came in a mailer pouch so no protection for the box at all. The box itself appeared cheap.I took the pen out and immediately saw that it had been used—there was a little bit of watery ink left in the barrel. Clearly it had been emptied and washed out, but not completely dried. Okay...fine. I should have stopped there. But I really wanted to try it out and thought maybe it was returned for aesthetic reasons or something. I filled it with ink and it took a few tries, as the vacuum feature wasn't quite as quick and easy as other pens I have. The best I could get was a half-full barrel. Not great. I cleaned the tip off and immediately saw that there was ink all around the inserted part of the nib, which means the fit isn't quite what it should be if there is airspace there.Once I started writing I had ink all over my hand. GAME OVER. I had to empty out the barrel because I wanted that bit of ink back; it's the expensive Pilot Japanese ink I didn't want to waste. Cleaned it up, repackaged, and requested a return from Amazon. Super lame for seller to resell a defective item. I will stick to better, solid brands from now on.

The extra-fine nib writes more like a medium. (REVIEW UPDATED)
The pen is very pretty, and gives the appearance of an expensive pen; it is classy-looking. The vacuum mechanism is nice, and the ink capacity is wonderful. However, the pen writes more like a medium than an extra-fine. I have just spent the last 2 hrs writing with the pen on a variety of paper, and the only type of paper that gives me an "extra-fine" result has been Post-It Notes. I have tried an Apica notebook, a Black n' Red, Moleskin, a Midori notebook, and different types of printing/copy paper. All gave me the same result: lines that are thicker than extra-fine. The pen is also incredibly wet on such papers. BUT is the problem were the wetness of the pen then the lines on the Post-It Note would have also been thick and wet. I would like to mention that all of my pens are extra-fine. As a lefty, I only write with extra-fine. I have experience with extra-fine, and this pen is definitely not extra-fine.I want to like this pen. The Wing Sung 699 has many wonderful qualities, but it just doesn't write well enough for an extra-fine nib. The reviews I read online, before purchasing this pen, all complained about the nib being too dry. This is precisely why I ordered it. I needed a drier nib in an extra-fine.Maybe I got a pen that is malfunctioning?UPDATE, 4/3: even though the pen was giving me problems, I decided to try another of the same model in a different color, for the sake of comparison. Was the issue "user error" or the pen? I received another Wing Sung 699, in blue with an EF nib. I dip-tested the nib in Pilot blue-black. It wrote like a dream. I filled the pen, which was a breeze, and it continued to write perfectly: the fine line was amazing and the ink flow was wet enough to function, but not too wet to saturate the paper; PERFECT. After a few days, I decided to seek a replacement for the original Wing Sung 699, in brown translucent. It arrived today, and I immediately decided to test it with a Noodler's ink--which can be a challenging ink, that is normally too wet. I dip-tested the replacement and it wrote just as well as the blue 699. I inked it up, which also functioned flawlessly, and begin testing the pen. It wrote just as perfect as the blue 699.All in all, I recommend this pen. I am a lefty and I write small. I enjoy neither paper soaked in ink nor nibs that are larger than extra-fine. The blue 699 and the replacement brown translucent are PERFECT. The original pen that I ordered was definitely a lemon--as I compared it to the replacement, today, using the same ink, and it was too wet and the nib too broad for the pen to be a functioning EF. Furthermore, my original pen, for which this review was initially composed, stopped filling reliably. I don't know why, but everything else was malfunctioning, so I wasn't surprised. You might get a dud, but if you get one that functions you'll never want to use another fountain pen, again!

Happy, Happy, Happy
This is a beautiful pen. Brown is normally not my colour, although I do like amber or tortoise shell pens. I don't know if this is considered amber but I really like it. Whatever the colour is, it looks great with the gold trim. You can see the ink level but not the colour. That's good for me because I don't like brown ink. I usually HAVE to match my ink to my pen. The ink has to at least "go" with the pen colour. Maybe I will finally try Noodlers Apache Sunset or Diamine Ancient Copper. Those will "go" with the brown. I filled it with blue but you would never know until you saw me write wth it.The important things are how it writes and how it feels in your hand, right? Good news. The medium nib is awesome. It is smooth. It has some bounce, as in not as stiff as a nail. It is a pleasure to write with. If you have tried a Kaigelu 316 with a medium nib you will like this nib. Sorry that I can't think of a more common pen to compare it to. The Wing Sung 699 is not your average Chinese pen. It actually looks like an expeensive Japanese pen - the Pilot 823. It doesn't feel like a cheap pen in your hand. It isn't turned acrylic but is made with injected molded plastic. That is OK. The 699 feels well-constructed and feels like it will last. Then there is the vacuum-filler mechanism. I left the best for last. It's fun. The pen holds a large amount of ink. That's a good thing but also a somewhat disappointing thing. It's just so much fun to fill it up!The Wing Sung 699 would make a great gift if it wasn't so wildly popular. Any fountain pen person on your list probably already has one. A second one would likely still be welcomed in a different colour. I wouldn't recommend it for a beginning fountain pen user but it would be great for anyone looking to step up from basic cartridge/converter pens. This is my new favourite pen. I think that most other fountain pen users will enjoy it too.

Smooth and medium wet/dry
I added this to my collection because I'd been hearing about the improved quality of chinese fountain pens and wanted to explore some of them. The 699 feels like fairly ordinary plastic, but the mechanism works well and the flow is superb. The medium nib is smooth, with a bit of feedback. Mine is blue and is inked with Diamine Sargasso Sea. Throughout the week, I found myself reaching for this pen more than any other, including pens that cost 10 times as much. Not saying this one is better, just that it feels nice to write with. Usually I need to tinker a bit to get the flow and line I want, but this one was perfect straight out of the (paper) box. I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking for an every day writer or who is getting into collecting fountain pens. It's good value. Time will tell if the plastic scratches easily, and if I continue to feel drawn to it. In the short term, I'd call it a winner.

Excellent pen!
Edit:The original nib was defective. The seller sent a replacement nib, which writes perfectly, like a fine and is quite smooth. I cancelled the return request and have updated my review to 5 stars. This pen writes very well, not dry, but a tad toward the drier side than midpoint between wet and dry. Changing to a wetter ink makes a noticeable difference. It is very easy to clean, looks very good and feels like a well built pen. It makes me want to keep writing and has quickly become my favourite pen.Original review:Seems like this pen is modelled after the Pilot Custom 823 for the most part, except for the clip. Seems to be well built, except I ordered a fine nib and although the nib says "f" it puts down a broader line than any fine nibbed pen I have, more like at least a medium. The worst part is that it is very scratchy and not useable. This pen would be worth 5 stars if it wrote well.I have requested a return after trying to request a replacement nib and not hearing back.Depending on the return, I may buy one again in the hopes that I got a defective piece, in which case I'll update this review, and rating.

It was worth a try
There is a small white inclusion in the body of the pen that annoys me, and the nib has needed quite a bit of tuning; but I feel that I got what I paid for and it’s definitely a working fountain pen. I do like the filling system quite a bit.
