Best of the many
I have owned 7 different home security DVR's. I have always ran into a variety of problems getting them set up, be it the password not transferring to the app, complicated internet setup, or a convoluted menu that makes it hard to impossible to find specific sections of video. The beauty was nice and easy from start to finish. I can find video I need nice and easy. The unit bought was cheaper because I didn't need the hard drive, and even that was easy to install. I can't recommend the Annke brand enough. It has been the absolute best unit I have owned thus far.

Works Great
bought this to replace my original Night Owl DVR. Works better than the original. Seams to have clearer picture with the original cameras. Added a video doorbell from another brand and works great. Good price.

4k vs 5mp lite software.
This review is base on my experience with the 4k vs the 5mp for this brand. My current night owl dvd broke and decided to buy another brand dvd to keep my cameras rolling,For that purpose I end-up buying the 5mp lite version for $50ish, but then I decided to invest a bit more in a more advanced version with 4k (8mp) capabilities.....My initial thoughts was to invest more for something better, faster and with more features.I was wrong, the 4k have an old interface, no options to upgrade firmware and limited FPM,My biggest disappointed is that the 4k version functionality is more limited than the cheapest option 5mp, (the 5mp lite have newer firmware with more advance features like line-crossing, zone and motion,I’ll probably buy the 4k again in a few years, if they improve the software and a better FPS rate,4k is currently limited to about 12fps.I am ok with 5mp but I need at least 20 fps,(The current 5mp lite deliver about 15fps, and 20fps at 3mp), thats my current setting.I hope they fix those issues soon,

ONVIF "non-compliant" Will Only Support Your IP Cameras OSD options. (name/date/time stamp)
The product boasts being ONVIF compatible so you can add newer IP Cameras, while keeping your older wired analog cams. However, it's only ONVIF support is to include the camera and record but it will NOT support any of the cameras features outside of setting the OSD fields. (time, date, cam name). This might not be a big deal for some, but my IP PTZ Cams have Sony IMX335 sensors, advanced image options like wide dynamic range, shutter speeds, IRcut timing, SD CARD and FTP support which are all basic features these days. BUT BUT BUT the biggest problem I have is that when any of my ONVIF IP cameras are ACTIVE in the DVR/NVR it LOCKS ME OUT of the configuration GUI of the camera so I have to DELETE the camera from the DVR/NVR just to make a change to the Camera. ONVIF compatibility is the means for which other devices like DVRS, NVRs, and Viewing Apps can ACT AS THE CONFIGURATION UTILITY for the camera without having to log into the cameras built in GUI (graphical user interface) just to change a camera setting, that's the WHOLE PURPOSE of being an ONVIF compliant device. I checked for a firmware revision at Annke before writing this review hoping to find one to update the devices ONVIF protocol version and maybe get support for the cameras resolution profiles but no such luck. I guess I'll be returning this sucker...

Does not support ONVIF motion detection. Image sharp but colors washed out
I bought this to replace a recorder that relied on Flash in its web interface. I'm using with AHD & IP cameras. The color on the AHD is washed out, but the image fairly crisp and the frame rate consistent, so that's not bad.IP cameras don't motion detect. Ugh. Fortunately, I also have Blue Iris for them. The downloaded files are HVEC, so budget another 30 bucks on conversion software if you want to edit the video in most editing software. Not a bad recorder, not great.

Great so far!
This was an excellent upgrade from my 6 year old DVR! Easy to install and get going. One thing I would caution: it comes with a remote, which works fine but when I use my television remote it can change the screen. I just blocked the remote sensor on the DVR's front panel, as I have no need for the DVR remote. Highly recommend!
