Flying Forts: The B-17 in World War II

Amazing book
Great book detailing the history of the B-17. The book goes through the B-17 models from the Boeing Model 299 all the way to the B-17G. The B-17 was an asset and the Second World War might not have been won without it.

Excellent read. Needs a reprint - I bought this as my original one is foxing badly and falling to pieces
An aging book in need of a reprint. Gives a good overview of the B17 with many anecdotes and mission stories. It's a bit of a slog at the beginning as you read through the development but it is written in such a way that you can skip past the boring bits.

Good Book
If you're not familiar with the air war in WWII, this would be a great book. But even still I learned a few new things. I'd buy it again so to speak.

Another great one....
I've read quite a few books on the B-17 and I've flown in one, so I can say without reservation that this is required reading for the student of history but also required reading if you really want a capsule book on the history of this great aircraft with the interesting sidelight stories that made up the extraordinary survival under and over insurmountable odds. Carry on.
