Inconvenient but worked well and then died quickly
Right out of the box, one of two acorn nuts that holds the depth gauge to the knife was AWOL. Tightened the other one, got to work. The button has to be held down - so if you set the knife down between cuts, it goes cold and then takes time with you standing around waiting for it to heat up again. Worked great otherwise on styrofoam ICFs. Couple of days into it, the thing died quietly. I got maybe five minutes of actual cutting out of the thing. Red light comes on, but the blade stays cold like in so many other reviews.

blade fell apart from handle
I used this knife three times cutting foamboard. I was very happy the first two days, but on the third time while I was cutting, the blade came apart from the handle. The only thing keeping it togheter were the wires. Besides of burning myself, I couldn't finish my project :( I gave it 3 stars because it is a great product and it does what it supposed to (if it doesn't brake so easily), but I guess I got a deffective one. :(

Good tool for hobbies.
Hard to find hobby tool but not as well made as I would like. Sufficient for small applications.

Effective but slow
The hot knife slices through Styrofoam fairly cleanly but does it rather slowly. The thick blade takes longer to melt through material than expected. We purchased this hot knife to cut 3/4" Styrofoam insulation but used a razor knife and straight edge instead for expediency (although the hot knife did a neater cut, it was too slow).

worked great to cut a foam insert for my pelican case
larger than expected. worked great to cut a foam insert for my pelican case. fits well in your hand and easy to use. takes about a minute to warm up but it held a constant temperature. i also use it to cut synthetic ropes.

Cuts through like butter!
For some strange reason, we had been using a box cutter to cut our sheets of styrofoam. Then, I saw a set designer using one of these tools and it cut through the sheet like butter and left no messy styrofoam pellets everywhere. This is amazing! I have seen "wire" hot knifes and they were awful. This is a solid piece of metal that heats up and then easily melts through to carve or shape it into anything easily. Wish I had bought it years ago.

Product was good, did exactly what I need it to
Product was good, did exactly what I need it to. I did not like holding in the on button the whole time and I wish it had adjustable cutting knife, but all in all a good hot knife and will use a lot!
