Must have for the serious smoker
I purchased this to use on a 22inch Weber Smoky Mountain roughly 1 year ago. At that time there were very few options in the market for smart BBQ controllers, and the options from well known players were generally $600 and up, so I took a chance on this item when it first came out to the market based on a couple dozen reviews that seemed promising. This is my review based on 1 year of ownership and about a dozen brisket cooks. The brackets that come for installing the rubber hose to WSM were a little large for the WSM, but i took a stepped drill bit to the WSM and made one of the vent holes larger and have had no issues. The inkbird app lists varous grills as options such as Weber Kettles, Green Eggs, but for bullet type smokers it only lists the 18" WSM as an option. Even so, the software and the fan output has been a solid success on my 22 inch WSM. It's maintained consistent temp even in 10 degree weather with constsnt 8-10 mph winds with 20 mph wind gusts. The actual fan/control board unit works well. The single push button/rotary knob gets the job done, but the real beauty and ease of use is the wifi connected app. Its much easier to use than the single knob and has really nice graphing and temperature setting controls. And best of all, you can monitor/control your smoker from anywhere, so long as the unit is connected to wifi. Being able to leave the house for work or errands and still having control if your smoker is VERY nice. All-in-all, this inkbird is all you need to turn your basic smoker into a smart smoker and totally transforms your experience from a high monitoring experience to a near automated one. I have no issues keeping whatever temp I desire with this thing. I've not tested constant high temp (for example, asking it to heat the smoker to 500 and holding that temp for long periods). That said, I didn't buy this for that kind of fire management; I bought this for smoking in my BBQ pit. My nit picks would be the following - Connectivity to my home's wifi was a little challenging the very first time i was setting the unit up, but since then has been very fast and consistent. Orientation of the hose is also weird. I wish the inkbird was oriented to where the hose sticks out from the bottom, rather than the top of the fan. This would make it easier to hang it/attach it near the grill. Lastly, it lacks a way to easily hang it or attach it to the grill. You either need to set it on the floor, your grill's side table, or set up a separate table nearby. But for half off compared to other options at the time, this thing rocks!

Amazing product
Overall this is a great product and at a great price point compared to other more complex units I had researched before deciding on the ISC-007BW. It has all the basics you need in a smoker controller and keeps the grill temperature solid as a rock on long cooks. It is a three probe system (one grill temp probe and two food temp probes. More than enough for my Large Green Egg. Out of the box the ISC-007BW comes in a sturdy storage case that has compartments for all components. It comes with the Smoker Controller, power plug, 3 probes, and adapter plates to fit different types of grills. . With the shimps provided it fit perfectly on my Large Green Egg. It comes with two instruction books. One is how to use the device and the other is how to pair the device with your phone using a bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection. The directions are minimal, but enough to start using the device immediately. I would recommend that you also watch the many You-Tube videos available to gain a better understanding on how to operate. Other reviews had commented on having trouble pairing but I had no problems at all. One important point is that it only works on a 2.4G network. I elected to do a practice run to see how the unit works with a grill target temperature of 225 F. I was able to get a stable 225 F in about 30 mins. My first cook was a 3.5 lb brisket point. 6 hours fat side down - 2 hours fat side up - wrapped in tin foil and had a goal of reaching an internal temperature of 185 F for at least two hours. Total cook time ended up being 11.5 hours. I let the fire get a little too hot as I was getting it going and just elected to put the meat on at 275 F grill temperature. It was able to get the temperature back down to 225 F within about 45 mins. The unit also did a great good of recovering back to the target temperature within 30 mins of opening the lid for the flips with the lid open for approximately 2 mins. I also did a 3 min timed opening of the lid at the 9 hour point to get data on recovery time. This ended up being a little bit of a bust but was a good demonstration on all the alert functions of the unit. I opened the lid for 3 mins but unfortunately when I closed the lid the daisy wheel slid open and the temperature rose to 275 F setting off the temperature alarm. I readjusted the daisy wheel and all said and done it took 90 mins for the temp to return back to target. I consider this a win because without the alert I wouldn't have caught my mistake for hours and the relatively short deviation had no effect on the final outcome. The brisket ended up turning out great and the unit operated great! The only areas I see for improvement are a few minor details with the APP. You have the ability to export the temperature probe data as a csv file. Unfortunately if you turn the unit off before exporting it is all lost. As I said before this is a great unit with all the basics you need!

Inexpensive and works well but a bit fiddly
Wasn’t the quickest and easiest to get it paired initially, but worked great after that. Just follow the instructions and you’re golden. First, the probes are pretty easy to figure out. Connection to your smoker can be a little bit of a challenge if you don’t have one of the listed units, but still not bad. The temperature control is pretty good, it hits targets with relative ease. It takes a lot of the guesswork out in my opinion. Just add fuel if the temp starts to drop, otherwise it takes care of the rest. Used it the first time on Thanksgiving and it was fantastic. I connected it to a little inverter on a dewalt battery and it lasted the entire 7 hour cook time. Pros: works well, inexpensive, good temp control, easy enough app to use, stayed connected. Cons: a bit cumbersome to connect the first time. The app isn’t the most intuitive. All the probes and everything connect in one place so very little flexibility on placement of the unit.
