I purchased the "C64 PSU Modern Black US - Replacement Commodore 64 Power Supply, US Plug" from Amazon as a replacement for my Commodore 64 PSU. Initially, the power supply seemed to meet the necessary specifications, delivering 5.1v and 10.5v on the respective pins, which was within acceptable parameters.However, after a few days of use over several month, I encountered significant issues. My Commodore 64 suddenly lost video output, and upon troubleshooting, I discovered two fried memory chips and a damaged SID chip. Suspecting a power supply issue, I re-measured the outputs and was alarmed to find that they had increased to 6.4v and 14.5v, significantly higher than the expected levels.This overvoltage is likely the cause of the damage to my C64. While the unit initially performed as expected, its inability to maintain stable voltage levels over a short period raises serious concerns about its reliability and safety for sensitive vintage hardware like the Commodore 64.I would advise caution to potential buyers. This power supply unit may pose a risk to your Commodore 64 due to its potential to output voltages higher than what is safe for the system.

solid build small and light. voltage and plug was right. took around a weak from over seas for delivery.much needed upgrade from the potted 35+ year old original. runs cool and works fine for now.

This power supply introduced video artifacts, in Composite and s-video. The stock VIC 20 power supply didn't do this.

Design is great. However, 9v supply is too high. Almost 12v in my case. This pushes the LM7805 voltage regulator to run very hot. Search YouTube for reviews. Early models of this one have the same issues. Wouldn't recommend it for the safety of your vintage computer.

Compared to the stock VIC 20 power supply, this one introduced visible artifacts. This happened on both an unmodified VIC 20 and the same one modified to output s-video. Two distortion bands sweep from top to bottom that start every two seconds, roughly.By comparison, the stock power supply doesn't produce these artifacts.VIC 20 Denial forum members suggest a ground loop is present.

As you probably know, Commodore's original power supplies like to blow up your Commodore 64 as they age. I have a voltage monitor on my C64, and this power supply hums along at 5.14 volts DC constantly. I'm very happy with it even though it is quite expensive on Amazon compared to other sources. You may have to wait weeks for international shipping other places, with Amazon, you get it in 2 days. To me, that is worth it, and this power supply is accurate and durable.
